Hmm, I forgot I had this laying around…

I think We’ll survive just fine without the “Yellow” type of Supervision thank you!

Well, I’ll be dang, Hoot, that is a question I think I can answer! The “sketches” are done in photoshop – I start with a photograph of the action, along with something like a ruler so I can keep a realistic scale to the proportions. I build the sketch in layers in photoshop – with a background, then the action, and then I go out on the internet and search “walnut gunstock blank” and convert the search to “images”. I find one I like, and copy it, then paste into a layer in my photoshop document. I then use the program tools to add shadow and highlight to create the illusion of dimension. Doing this allows me to work through the actual process of shaping in my head, before I ever start with a real tool – gives me a chance to work through the actual steps, and potentially solve problems before I really get there…
I can’t do anything about the lack of supervision in your past (although you have my sympathies), but do hope this has helped clear up your vision (a little).
My problem is not seeing, Dave, it’s seeing doubledouble!
Our sense of humor is sometimes a bit lacking in sophistication, but that is the result of inappropriate supervision…
We would be anxious to see “forbidden” projects on this forum, particularly in the bullpup section. Some of us will be watching from home, some from work, some from jail cells, but we all will be interested.
What I want to know is how you get that wood grain on your stock sketches? Do you use a special “hardwood” pencil???
Regards,
Kindly ‘Ol Uncle Hoot:
Well, there really is only 1 DaveG ( I hope), and home is where you find it. I have some projects upcoming that will not be welcomed on the yellow. I know that there are those that enjoy seeing and following the projects, so I am shopping for a new home base to share from ;-). If you missed some of the initial steps, you should check out this thread – http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=32080
Besides, if you can not look at the work I have posted here already, and recognize it as THE DaveG, you need to ask your optometrist for some new specs 😉
:hoot:
Unmitgated horse colo-rectal purgings!!! (Huge, steaming, malodorous, heaping piles of them!)
Nobody is THAT gifted……Why, you’d have to be old, like us on this nursing home forum, and have machinery, talent, skill, intelligence, no palsy or arthritis in your hands, and be able to see with both eyes!!!
Do you take us for senile, half-witted, prune-stuffed, oxymoron’s ?
The only DaveG who could have possibly pulled that off is the DaveG who lives at the Yellow forum…imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and everyone wants to be DaveG, but he doesn’t frequent the hallowed halls of the TAG!!!
You must realize, that we aren’t as dumb as we look!!! If you REALLY are THE DaveG….say something in “Machinist”! Go ahead, I dare you….huh….huh…..
Kindest regards,
Old, but still semi-functional, Uncle Hoot:
That’s the longest dovetail scope rail I’ve ever seen! Where in the world did you find it?
Hoot:
Find it? It started out as a flat piece of bar stock – I machined it just like all the other parts of the action 😉 Oh, it is also droop cut to compensate for the height above bore line…

had a chance to work out this concept for a stock on my scratch built double tube “Trident” based Bullpup action –

The action is .22, has a reg installed, and with twin tube, runs @360cc’s of air @ 3200psi.
I like the double tube set up.
Very nice !!
not case hardened – it is anodizing on aluminum. It is a process I figured out on my own, and have been playing with for several years.

Is that casehardened ?
