Q:

Bolt slop

I just installed the tt top hat and the tt anti-slap hammer. When I cock the gun and close the bolt and lock it over to the side,I have about .010 slop between the bolt face and the top hat. By this I mean I can move the bolt back and forth about .010
It doesn’t sound like much but it didn’t have any with the original top hat. When I fire the gun the bolt moves up to the unlocked position. My question is, is this normal? Will it have any effect on accurasy? Guess I’ll call tony tomorrow and ask him.

chrono it. if anything funny it will shows up there. and the oring inside the breech should keep it pretty snugged to the tophat. shudnt be a problem i think

Ok, called Tony this morning. H said this is perfectly normal. If the velocity and accuracy are good do nothing

When the gun the bolt moves up to the unlocked position.
You could also do a test to see for yourself and your gun.
Use a rubber band to lightly hold the cocking knob close and test crony with and without to see if it affected the velocity.
Target shooting at the same time would be always better.

On the gap between the bolt face and the top hat has had some talk here on TAG.
IIRC, some say it not good to have and some say otherwise ?
Both of my AF guns don’t have a gap and I’m using the factory top hat on both.
On one I shimmed the factory top hat and the other didn’t need it.
If not the gap will create a double slap, one hammer hitting the breech and the second the breech hitting the top hat.
Unless you close the breech against the top hat so that it sits against it all the time, then it maybe okay ?

It would look and feel good fitting snugly in the supposed latched position but actually the hammer is going to drive that snugness wide open and it will recontact the aluminum frame hard enough that eventually the bolt will wear a burr on the frame. That should be looked after with a fine file. Mine seem to always bounce to the center position but maybe Tony will have an idea for that.
