not so clean barrel?
I’m finding that a barrel that is not spic and clean is more accurate than a barrel with 100-300 shots through it. my groups w/16gr or 18gr JSB, are tighter than when i freshly clean my barrel. When i lower my velocity and shoot 13/14gr JSB the barrel has to be cleaned to get precision accuracy. Maybe its the differance in pellet skirts?? IDK??
Ive tested this alot and got same results, barrel personality?? Anyone seen this before??

Never had to clean any of my barrels yet . Shot over 2500 pellets through the .22 cal barrel on my Talon SS before I changed it out to a .25 cal barrel .
Looked at the .22 cal barrel when I took it off my rifle and it wasn’t dirty at all and most of the pellets that went through it were EJ’s which many
shooters have said that they are a dirty pellet to use . Both my .22 cal and my .25 cal barrel are only 12″ long . I have shot over 1500 pellets with my
.25 cal barrel so far and it shoots perfect still using mostly EJ’s . Because my barrels are only 12 inches long , maybe that could be the reason why my
barrels stay so clean ? I really don’t know.

Try the beeman felt cleaning pellets – dry or with ballistol (followed by dry) – they do a lousy job of cleaning and might get you back to that 100-shots-fired state witout overcleaning. The same fouling result is true for powderburners – but it takes much fewer shots to season the barrel. After that, if you care enough you try not to over-clean.

The only reason powder burners clean their barrels is to prevent corrosion. We don’t have corrosive elements that will pit or eat holes into our barrels, and I’ve always found a dirty barrel shoots best. BUT, always check for obstructions in the barrel before you shoot.

Correct, accuracy is dead nuts from about 100-300 shots, then falls off, clean the barrel and it’s not as accurate for 75-100 shoots. But then again, I shoot BR so 1/8″ is huge for me

mine too. in all my guns. i think its all just about re-leading the barrel filling all the valleys.
Ok, so after around 300 shots you find better accuracy. That is interesting.
