Q:

AF Handpump just crapped out on me. WhatToDO?

Worked perfectly yesterday.
All of a sudden as I was filling up today I noticed that on the downstroke the resistance was minimal, and I could hear air escaping.
Not really sure where its getting out at!
If I pump very rapidly, it will fill my tank up BUT much slower as there is only pressure on the last 3 inches of downstroke.
I have tightened everything up as a check, but this did nothing.

What could be the cause? Do I need a rebuild kit? Can I simply take it apart and clean it up?

I’ve read other posts on this subject but I am still a little unclear as to what my first step should be or what to look for if I take it apart!

Thanks in advance :smilen:

Or turn the knob on your tank and Wala your done……………….. 😀

Again just try changing the # 007 O-ring and leave the rest for later.
You should be able to find the # 007 Viton A90 (5/32″ID X 9/32″OD X 1/16″CS) at your local Ace Hardware.
But they might have only the A70 which will work, but not as long as the harder A90 Viton.

Another note be careful not to loose the small rubber ball located on the inside top of the pump.
Do not lube this ball, clean out it’s inlet hole and replace it.

Here is another source for the rebuild kit, http://www.amazon.com/Benjamin-Airforce-Rebuild-Reseal-O-Ring/dp/B00JYG3UXA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1432214527&sr=8-3&keywords=air+force+hand+pump

When in use pump only 25-30 pumps at a time, let the pump cool down for at least 5 minutes then repeat.

My pump crapped on me in no time. Well technically it pissed its oil all over the garage floor. Despite people saying the pumps can last a lifetime if treated properly. What crap. Maybe if you don’t use them. They overheat. Period. Bought a scuba. I’ve not looked back.

Hey guys thanks a lot! I NEED to be up and running no later than tomorrow night.

So in other words… What’s the best place to locate these various o rings? I would think Home Depot, Ace, Lowes etc.

Airforce supports their pump

Give them a call

I know what I’d do, I’d buy myself a tank and throw that hand pump away……..just my :2cents:

First I would do a soapy water test to see if the leak is on the outside somewhere.
I’d check form the foster connect to the base of the hose.

But it sounds to me that it’s the main pressure and or the valve O-ring that when.
It’s a #007 I use a Viton some use the white Urethane one it’s up to you.
Also IIRC the value O-ring is the same size ?

Here is the rebuild kit if you need it but I would just change the main pressure O-ring first and see.

Here is a good video to help you with the rebuild.

This is some extra crap I bought for mines and I use the Hill desiccant pac to refill it, it works !
