25 Cricket – 14 monthes of use.
Hello guys
Had my cricket for 14 months and it just keeps getting better and better, but only when I realised that I need to keep the speed at 880 fps for H&N Baracuda. Over 900 fps it sprays them everywhere.
Anybody else have same experience? I have had no problems at all from engineering or technical issues. I haven’t even cleaned the barrel, just quick wipe down after use.
It has been so good that I have sold everything else I had (including a 22 cricket, Daystate and air arms)….well apart from getting a Blaser R8 .270 and Weihrauch HW66
So, in summary, very pleased indeed.
Cheers

My Cricket shoots:
H&N 31. gr. Cudas @ 12′ – 898, 899, 898, 898, 901 FPS. (3 different shots @ 60 yards still going – 746, 764, 759 FPS. ) Average .875″ C/C at 60 yards. Not my pellet of choice.
JSB 25.39 gr. Kings @ 12′ – 946,945,946,946,946 FPS. (3 different shots @ 60 yards still going – 773,777,777 FPS. ) Average > .5″ C/C at 60 yards. ONE of my pellets of choice.
H&N 31. gr. Grizzlys @ 12′ – 855,862,861,861,859 FPS. (3 different shots @ 60 yards still going – 746, 764, 759 FPS. ) Average 2.375″ C/C at 60 yards. Not my pellet of choice. Lubed and still to hard to chamber, and they back out of the mag’s. while shooting.
H&N 27.47 gr. Baraduda Hunter @ 12′ – 932,925,925,929,926 FPS. (3 different shots @ 60 yards still going – 756,756,753 FPS. ) Average .625″ C/C at 60 yards. ONE of my pellets of choice. Incredable for Starlings. A fairly accurate H.P. that really works.
H&N 28.4 gr. Baraduda Hunter Extreme @ 12′ – 926,927,927,931,915 FPS. (3 different shots @ 60 yards still going – 714,715,727 FPS. ) Average 1.825″ C/C at 60 yards. Not my pellet of choice.
Rat Sniper Slugs 31 gr. Hollow Point @ 12′ – 863,863,862,864,863 FPS. (3 different shots @ 60 yards still going – 773,779,781 FPS. ) Average .5″ C/C at 60 yards. My hunting pellet of choice. These are the most impressive Hollow Point pellets out there. (That I’ve shot)
Note that @ 100 yards – JSB’s hitting on the bullseye. (Elevation wise) Using the same hold over-
H&N 31. gr. Cuda’s – POI is 1.75″ low.
JSB 25.39 gr. Kings – POI is 0″ low.
H&N 31. gr. Grizzly”s – POI is 4.625″ low. ( Save your $$$ for RSS Slugs that work.)
H&N 27.47 gr. Baraduda Hunter – POI is 2.125″ low.
H&N 28.4 gr. Baraduda Hunter Extreme – POI is 4.375″ low.
Rat Sniper Slugs 31 gr. Hollow Point – POI is 1.5″ low. (Best hunting pellet!) Well worth the price.
My Cricket is stock, and still working great. I’m very pleased with mine also. Only cleaned my barrel about 6 times, so far.
That’s what my notes show for my gun………Happy shootin’.
That is very interesting long shot, thanks. I clearly need to buy a tin of JSBs and try them. Not sure rat sniper slugs are available in UK but will have a look.
Cheers

Yesterday a friend and I went to a place that I like for 100 yard shooting with minimal wind.
Shot a poor group from my Colibri. Dirty barrel.
Then he asked why I like the .25 cal.
My response was to pull it out, and shoot 2 rounds at a skeet and the remaining 10 in the photo.
There was a mild right to left breese. The ? shot was something I did wrong during the shot.
Just an average group. This is the reason I enjoy shooting a .25 cal. Cricket.
Like uncle albert said, my Cricket just seems to get better and better.

Damn LS that’s one nice group.
Yup the 25 is very speed sensitive.

Zonk, my barrel is stock. I bought polish and a special rod for it. Talked to Charlie Frear about the Crown, bore, and chamber a few times.
He set my gun to 956 FPS and adjusted the trigger, before test firing groups from all 5 mag’s. and shipment.
Just can’t bring myself to “fix” something that works so well.
I was once very frustrated with groups that just seemed to wonder all over the target during some 100 degree days.
For several weeks I’d hurry home, pull a 50 degree gun out and start shootin’ 1″ or bigger groups @ 60 yards.
Accidently figured out that leaving it out in the 100 degree weather for an hour or so solved my issues.
Here’s a group of more than 5 JSB’s @ 60 yards I shot a week or so ago, to comfirm accuracy to another .25 pellet.

Long shot, did you lap your barrel or is it stock?
Well, I’ve had my .25 for 12 months now, and have empty tins that total 14,200 pellets and no problems at all. Since I just shot some test shots with a variety of different pellets over the chrony @ 12 ‘ and out @ 60 yards. Here’s some results. ( Done last week end)

Hopefully I am lucky. But it was highly inaccurate when I had the speed at 910 fps, lucky if I got a 3 inch group at 50 yds.
Amazing the a difference 30fps can make – what the is the theory behind this big difference ?

Some barrels accuracy degrades after many shots and I’ve heard of others that don’t. So it seems you have no reason to clean it.

To be honest, only tried the Baracuda after a friend recommended them. T
hey go through pretty much the same hole at 50 yards. Fairly comfortable with head shots on rabbit up to 60 yards.
Maybe I should clean it, but cannot see much point cleaning air rifle barrels. There is no copper or corrosive combustible residue. Maybe I am missing something

Wow that much shooting and never cleaned the barrel…. Now I can get 1000-1500 shots out of my .22 before cleaning but a .25 still shooting good without cleaning, that’s real good.
Wow if your Cricket 25 likes Cudas at 880 fps that’s a lot of power, same as Kings at 970 fps.
May I ask what kind of accuracy are you getting with the Cudas at 50 and 75 yards ?
Have you tried the JSB Kings ?

Many thanks Long Shot for that interesting research.
I will try out some JSBs and try to source some Rat Sniper Slugs. Might be hard to find here in UK.
Don’t have trouble with heat in Scotand, that’s for sure. Just frozen fingers.
Cheers
