a good pcp for my son!
first my son is 5 years old
so I am going to be getting my son a BB gun(daisy) first to teach him the basics and as he shows progress and safety, I want to upgrade him to a decent PCP in 177 or .22. something that has a regulator, that I can work on and something that i can adjust the power on so first he can start at a low power (lots of shots) and later as he gets better turn the power up so that we can start hunting. I want something that I can gradually make better with him and show him the basics of how the gun works and how to upgrade it. it obviously needs to be cheaper then the average pcp. I am looking at the hatsan at44 and the marauder pistol. but any and all suggestions are welcome. :biggrinn:

Just a suggestion and yes a sales pitch.
Something to consider.
CO2 pistol, that can easily and affordably be used as a carbine, with a regged HPA tank or bulk CO2.
With high shot count, accuracy and most of all inexpensive to make sure the depth of their interest.
The base pistol is available with multi shot mags at 129 bucks.
Like I said, just an option and there are several other comparable types and brands.
Unless you have a scuba tank, that is going to be a lot of pumping just for plinking.
15 shots maybe unless you really take the power to 0 and even then I am not sure how many shots it will go.
but maybe Daddy wanted a gun for himself, hey 🙂

l think I found it! It has a pull length down to 9.75. Its the airforce talon ss survival.
I got my nephew a marauder pistol. With the adjustable carbine AR style stock, it fits him very well. And the low weight is another big plus. Also, he can pump it himself easily with a hand pump if you tune it for a low fill of 1,7k like I did. Lots of shots with barely any pumping hassle since the cylinder is only like 65cc. It’s a very hard gun to beat for ease of use and filling for a child..
My two cents would go towards a Benjamin Discovery. It is inexpensive, compact, light weight, easy to fill, can easily be tuned up or down and with all of the after market parts and modifications available it can grow into pretty much anything you want.

As a hunter education instructor, I would suggest you get your son familiar with shooting with a gun that has been sized for a kid of his age.
Most PCPs are heavy and large (mostly designed for adults.)
Keep on using youth air rifles that will fit him well and won’t induce bad habits and bad handling posture.
When he is old enough then you can get him a nice PCP that will last him long time.
There are a lot of youth air rifles out there, lots of them are multipump pneumatic or CO2. These are used for competition and are very accurate but designed for smaller shooter frames.

I actually just ordered a shoebox so pumping is not a problem but I dont like the low shot count. My main reason would need to be high shot count.
