Baby Cricket Meets Three Crows
There must have been at least six of them and they hung around long enough to dispatch three easily with the venerable .177. Third one ended up in the creek bottom. :4: Shots were 40-50 yards.

I had two crows hanging out in the tops of the trees in my backyard. Dropped one w the .25 Cricket & the other flew off only to return 5 mins later to see wHy his buddy was still lazing around on the ground. Well he found out & joined him there soon after arriving. Love the Cricket.
Don’t know why they stopped making the skeleton stocks. Synthetic bulldog is way too heavy & I am in the market for a nice wood stock soon :2cents:
nice shooting SECoda,
i love busting up crows also!
Coda it won’t be long and you’ll be posting a picture of the hole through your sliding glass door, like your hand rails….. 😆 8″ opening. haha
Sam good shooting and very nice WST stock :biggrinn:
Nice shooting SECoda. Crows are really smart. When I moved into my house I shot 2 crows and I have not seen one around my house since. That was over 4 years ago. You-Tube has a documentary “A Murder of Crows”. Its shows their behavior and how smart they really are. I enjoyed it plus its free.
I think that’s what makes the hunt enjoyable. Yes, humans are the most intelligent species on Earth, but an animal such as the crow has developed its own instinct to defend itself or even attack; humans may not readily possess the skill to counteract its instinct until studying about it first. Even though Safari Sam can solve a quadratic equation in less than a minute whereas a leopard cannot, if you throw him in the leopard’s territory unprepared, it’s game over (excuse the pun) for Sam.
The thrill of hunting lies in demonstrating who is superior in a given hunting ground. It’s taking the time to understand what your quarry is capable of and what areas it is far better than you at and using the knowledge you have to humanely dispatch it. Of course to be fair and challenging, to put it down in one shot only. Then again, if you’re Bazooka Bob you can always disregard all of this and just grab your big-caliber gun and a tear that sucka up! :4:
By the way, the video is interesting. Very smart those cackers! I wish I could hunt crows so they can force me to get smarter. 😆
Nice shooting too Secoda! :thumb:

Good post. Not bad with a bipe and some minor breeze. I will be interested in a Vulcan maybe when he releases the .177. The Compact Crickets in .177 were impressive.
GKU this was about 10 days ago. 55 yards with a Compact .177 shooting JSB 10.3’s at 900 fps. As far as I know this Compact is completely stock. I bought it from another member here.

Sorry for going off topic SECoda.
JSB 8.4s at 950 fps group size is about 1/2″ @ 50 yards.
The 10.34g at 930 fps is maxed for my reg setting and does 3/8″ ctc @ 50 yards and slightly better 1/4″ ctc at 920 fps.
That’s AMAZING with the coons, for such a larger game with a 177 cal !
dangy dang dang, when it comes to shot placement that baby Crickets are insanely accurate isn’t she !! 😆
I like the speed for those twitchy critters out there waiting !!

Yes – Still at about 900-905 FPS for the 10.34’s – about 19 FPE. It still does q 3/8″ 50 yard group when I do my part. I rarely clean the barrel on it like I do the larger calibers (about every 4 tins/2000 pellets). There are about 6500 shots through the gun. I work from home and shoot off and on all day long every day. 😆 I really could give the gun constant air where I shoot but have not had the need since I sometimes move it for front yard shots. 😛 If noise was an issue I might try the lower power but I am hooked on the impact plop. I wonder how fast I can shoot a 10.34 accurately? Also, got about my 11th chipmunk this year right after the crows.
How is accuracy with the JSB 8.4s at 950? Can you get the 10.34s that fast? They really sizzle. (don’t tell anyone but I dropped two raccoons already between the eyes with the BC and 10.34s)
Hey, there not that easy to shoot, dang crows are smart let alone 3 of them ! :biggrinn:
My cousin in Wisconsin tried to kill one for 4 years he failed, when it finally got hit by a speeding car.
The crow that is not my dumb cousin, out smarted by a crow what a dump ass. 😆
SECoda are you still shooting your baby @ 900 fps with JSB heavies ?
For some reason(s) my Compact recently likes JSB heavies @ 920 fps and JSB lites at 930 fps.
It hated it there before, probably the barrel played-in after shooting it so much.
Also, I pick up some hammer springs from Amazon in lengths of 1.75″, 2″ and 2.25″ long, for cheap !
I have been getting about 150 shots at 11.4 fpe !
I used the 2″ long one in my 177 Cricket Compact and got the results below.
My reg set to 120 bar valve spring retainer set to 1 turn after contact.
With JSB 8.44g.
With the Imppu HST at 0 turn it doing 650 fps (7.92 foot-pounds)
At 2 turns it’s doing 780 fps (11.4 foot-pounds)
At 5 turns it’s doing 950 fps (16.92 foot-pounds)
With JSB 10.34g.
With the Imppu HST at 0 turns it’s doing 605 fps (8.41 foot-pounds)
At 2 turns it doing 725 fps (12.07 foot-pounds)
At 5 turns it’s doing 890 fps (18.19 foot-pounds)
At 7 turn it’s doing 930 fps (19.86 foot-pounds)
It’s pretty cool I think that I got all this variability with just one spring, from about 8-20 fpe !!!
I think if I removed a coil I could get it down to 6 fpe ?

Well the first was on the ground. The second flew to a tree. The third flew off in the woods about 50 yards and then came back for his buddy I guess. Since I was inside (through the door slid about 8″) they never saw a thing and there was little noise. The first two never gave a warning and went down hard. With a HP rifle I could only get one max with the explosion. Air guns are fabulous for stealth.
Nicely done there SECoda ……… ….. .
