Q:

Card Cutting Stand

The cards where cut with my Cricket Compact 177 cal tune to send JSB 10.34g @ 920 fps mounted with a Mamba lite 3-12×44 SCB, no wind today very hot and humid.

Looking down the scope the cards are very hard to see at 12x.
Even though the Mamba has a very fine etched glass radical the width is about 4x wider/thicker than the playing card.

After practicing I did some with 4 shots and some with 7 today.
I be trying 40-50 yards next week but I need to make a holder that points to the center of the card or I won’t be able to see them, more on that latter …………….

This is my average attempt, 6 shots at 30 yards to cut all 4 cards, some took 2 shots to finish the cut.
Friend suggested that I’m cutting them to high, down the center be better.

My Airgun buddy wanted me to make him a holder, so I made 5 of them to give as take home gifts for our 4th of July barbeque luncheon.

 HAPPY 4th guys !

But with the JSB heavies the gun is spot on anywhere between 890-920fps (18.19 – 19.35 fpe) depending on the pellet lot.
It’s been getting awfully harder and harder to see with that magnification, so the shooting took more than twice as long to do.
I made a visual pointer in aid to help me with the cards at 50 yards, I’ll post it latter.

How is the FT shooting going for ya ?

In my 1st ever FT event I tied for 3rd place but then lost in the tie breaker shoot out. Last event I placed 3rd with the Compact using the JSB 10.34g at 900 fps.

The Canadian Nationals are in 2 weeks but Im not sure if I am going. August I will be going to a few FT matches with the Compact. I have been searching for a single shot adapter but cant find one. Ernest is too busy tuning now to make one. Not having one is a disadvantage in FT, loading by hand is a lot more consistent than using a magazine. Its one less thing that can wrong.

My next match I hope to place in the top two. The Compact is more than capable if I do my part.

Congrats on your place…..Is that Broom County NY?

Thanks 3dbuilder. The match was held in Binghamton NY. If your in the northeast and want to shoot, compete or just hang out with nice air gunners check out the link below. Its the northeast FT schedule for 2015.

This coming Friday July 24th is the Baldwinsville Airgun Show. Starts at 11 am. A great place to visit if you like airguns. There will be booths/tables set up with companies selling airguns and supplies at discounted prices. Saturday morning they have a unsanctioned FT match . They also have a 50 yard range with targets set up that you can use anytime you want to shoot.

Sorry I didnt respond sooner I did not see your post.

Thanks for sharing love the card holder good stuff i have to make one of these!!!

It’s easy to make if you have a small band saw.

But if not you could also find wooden slats about 3/8″ thick x 1.5 ” wide at your hardware store.
Stack them together with 2 cards in-between each section and glue them all together.
Drill a hole all the way through them and use a nut and bolt to prevent them from splitting apart when clamping.

Sweet stand !!! Unlike using pony clamps that would make for less trip down range.

I was planing on having zonk squeeze his man boobies together hold the card for me. That way I could tell him ” put another card up you old bastard “. But your rig would work better!

Thanks LB,

You could also make Zonk hold that one for ya as well. :winkn:
On either one of his heads it’s up to your digestion which one you choose, he’s always game for new and exciting adventures ,,,, ,,,, from what I’ve heard.
If you thinking you’re shooting good on that day it doesn’t matter which one you choose, just make sure you aim in the middle ? :4:

Good idea ! 😈

Greg thanks for all the help and info.

“Also on the single shot tray, don’t forget to make an indent for the cocking rotational lever, don’t want that to bend or break”

That is where Ernest put a hole then an oring into the wood? Did you polish your mags?

Not sure about the one Ernest makes.
But when you cock the gun there is a lever that sticks out of the receiver that rotates the mag, you need to make an allowance for that.

Also you might try and contact Imppu and see if he still makes them also. myynti@dase.fi

yes, I chamfered the inlets and polished the mag that gave me trouble with accuracy.

Greg thanks for the video and link to amazon. I am going to try making an adapter from wood and will post my results in this thread.

The Cricket is more accurate with 2 out of the 6 mags I have. So I am pretty sure it will be even more accurate with a single shot adapter, there is less chance for the pellet to be damaged when loaded by hand. A little scrape or indentation of the pellet head or skirt can and will affect accuracy.

When shooting my Cricket 22 cal I marked with a piece of tape the mags that gave me a bit of trouble with accuracy.
Then applied an Ernest voodoo trick to the mags, here’s the post from awhile back if you haven’t see it already.

Very nice shooting Sam, you should be very proud that is an achievement !

A single shot tray is not that hard to make, this is FreeManShooting he made one out of wood.

Also you can mold your own with InstaMorph.

Probably not allowed in FT Matches but, I’ve been single loading from the side of the mags.

Thanks Zonk.

Congrats Sam, that’s some good shooting.
