Chris your points are well taken however we differ, I believe there are trends to be found, all be it fairly basic.

And I’m absolutely positive that will be the case for the five inserts and I believe they’ll be quite specific.

Keep in mind there’s “teckie” and “teckie” a good many owners will be hands on pulling things apart and swapping them round, that’ll be me and that’s “teckie” and as you say thats part of the fun of ownership but its not the same “teckie” as that of Tony or Dyotat100.

There is no final packaged solution for “non techie”.
The fun of the airgun world is the tinkering, the trying, testing, shooting shooting shooting!

Even expensive air rifles need to be tuned to each different pellet, shooting style and purpose.

So, pick a platform, as it comes, and start from there!
If you over think it too much, you end up with a lot of frustration as you will have all these gadgets it will only make the number of combinations greater.

Pick a rifle, pick your purpose (sniping, hunting, target, etc). Pick a few pellet types and see the one that marries the rifle better and continue tuning.
The fun part is that you will be shooting a lot to achieve this!

The top hat with inserts is awesome, but it won’t give the final tune or perfect setup for any gun you put it on.
You still need to work on it (pellets, barrel, springs, valve, etc).

My 2c
Cheers
Chris

Tony I came across a post you made about a custom gun in which you’d used five inserts.
It struck me that the versatility this offered may well equal or surpass the use of a regulator and offer benefits far beyond pellet changes, such as tuning barrel length swaps, caliber swaps, combinations of both, fpe bench marks for various combinations etc.

Now I’m very much new to all this so please put me right if I’ve misunderstood some thing basic but it seems to me that whilst it has benefits a regulator becomes one more thing to buy and adds unwanted length where as the QCTH already seems to be a staple mod for many owners and one that could allow as many benefits, possibly more to the average owner. Simplicity it self to change out, relatively inexpensive, no tech knowledge required.

That post was one of the reasons that I asked the original question. Since then I’ve done a lot of searching and I’m surprised how little is out there about this. Every one is talking about regulators and their obvious benefits but nothing seems to be happening with inserts. Or may be the info is out there but its not cast in stone and absolutes that I recognise, which is what those of us who are inexperienced take comfort in when new to a subject.

Imagine the average non techie owner knowing for all of his chosen combinations for his gun that if he fits insert 1, uses .22 x 24” and popular pellet x he’s set for an estimated, general performance of ABC. Perhaps its already out there and I’m too dense to recognise it but I’ve burnt a lot of midnight oil and I’m not finding the answers. Perhaps its already been put to bed as limited in value and I’ve not come across it.

I realise there’s a massive spread of variables but has there been any general data collected during development that collates information on the relationship between inserts, calibers, barrel length, “standard” (popular) pellet choices, predicable fpe’s etc?

In the post there were five inserts used but only two appear to be available. Is there a reason for this?

Is the insert as versatile as it appears?

When I read that post I was blown away by the implications but I cant find the resources to develop my understanding of the subject.

I hope all this makes sense, its a bit late here so it might not read as well as it should
Hopefully you’ll be able to follow it and I won’t have embarrassed my self too much 😳

Any how TIA

Talon/Talon SS has standard flow tank.
Condor/Condorss/ TalonP have high flow tanks.

SO……all the Talon/Talon SS/Talon P have the micrometer valve or standard Valve, correct?

Would Rachel G.l know at AirForce?

You’re a top man, many thanks :thumb:

Condor has high flow valve. It’ll fit!
Wildfire :5:

As long as you have ordered & get a condor qcth will fit….. 🙂

Its not really that clear. I’m unable to physically put hands on the gun and neither the Airforce or Pyramid Air sites specify any thing other than the volume of the tank.

I was hoping some one who’d recently purchased would know what theirs shipped with. I’ve sent Airforce an email.

If your tank has an hi-flo (or direct-flo) valve, it will.

(Man this was an easy question….)
