Q:

.22 Vulcan HST adjustment

Vulcan .22 x HST. UP 1/4 TURN

Was shooting great at 50 yards with 18.1 gr JSBs chronographed at about 898 FPS. BUT to find paper at 100 yards I had to hold over so far I was about out of scope.

MY .22 Vulcan requires the 2 Pin tool but what the heck newer models will only need an allen tool. Checking mine out I opted to insert 2 tiny allens and while holding some forward pressure I crossed through them with a heavier allen and turned the first two. Hey, it clicks like a good scope turret. So, being a cautious chicken I turned the HST up about 1/4 turn.

Pellet data BEFORE:
(10-11 Rounds)
SD MV FP Wgt BC PELLET
4.4 996 30 14.30 .019 CPHP
2.0 954 31 15.80 .016 JSB Pointed
2.2 898 32 18.13 .033 JSB
2.3 896 37 21.14 .035 H&N Baracuda

Pellet data AFTER 1/4 Turn of HST:
(10-11 Rounds)
SD MV FP Wgt BC PELLET
3.2 1008 31 14.3 .019 CPHP
3.3 971 32 15.8 .016 JSB Pointed
1.9 915 33 18.13 .033 JSB
3.6 843 32 21.14 .035 H&N Baracuds

*note “MV” stands for “True Muzzle Velocity” as calculated by the Caldwell chronograph considering my 5 foot distance from muzzle to chronograph.
*note2 while the 3 lower weight pellets increased in FPS the Baracudas with the best BC LOST FPS & FPE dramatically ❗

Well….. any questions or suggestions before I take it to the range ❓

I am still trying to understand the VULCAN Regulator.
And hearing that my 915 fps for 1&.1 JSBs may be low for 100 yards, i turned up the HST ANOTHER 1/4 turn.
Now getting about 932 fps for 18.1 grain JSBs but haven’t checked it at the range yet.
BUT LOOK at these figures:
Pellet….Wgt/…————HST————
Brand…grains….OEM…..+1/4…..+1/2
CPHP…..14.3…..996……1008……987
JSB……..15.8…..953…….971……956
JSB……..18.1…..898…….915……932
H&N…….21.1…..896…….843……853

Some go up then down,
some go down then up,
and I need one of those expensive bench rest vices to know which is best :butkick:

Lurker, I’ve heard most people keep their gun 12 to 14″ from crono…..why so far??

Shooting down into my barrel pellet trap from a caldwell shooting chair. If I had the chronograph close to the chair I’d be bumping into it with the swing arm and rifle while stepping over the chair to sit down or getting up. The chair is designed to fold up and be carried like a backpack and therefore is awkward in some ways. But it is comfortable and very adjustable. It takes getting used to but works for me. A table would be more stable but more in my way.

Wow. That little adjustment and this big a change. Looks like mine is fine where it is. Good info
