Q:

Moderators and Barrel Harmonics

I just added an LDC and shroud adapter to my .25 Vulcan and noticed that my POI has slightly changed. No biggie since I’ll just re-set my Zero. Just wondering if this is normal…..Also, should I hand torque to about the same tightness each time I pull the shroud or ldc off, or will I have to re-set zero each time I take off the shroud for barrel cleaning?

I shot my Edgun .25 yesterday with and without the LDC at 50 yards and it was shooting lower with the LDC on.

Sometime the added mass can cause added muzzle flipping and usually results in the POI ether going higher or lower then without.
To check if this is the cause rest your hand on the LDC/Shroud when shooting if it changes it’s mass related and or a weak fixation point.

Other reasons can be from over pressure from the added LCD that is building up to much inside, and is usually cured by back porting the shroud to release some pressure. Sending the pellet out of the muzzle on a vacuum and often can result in an improvement in accuracy if done correctly.

This is the tape test I use when designing my LDC, sorry not for sale !!
The pellet doesn’t need to actually make contact to the internals or the front cap hole.
If it’s very close to one side compared to the other it can send the pellet of it’s coarse also.

Added note after taping I place the muzzle directly against my corrugated cardboard rubber mulch pellet trap and fire, it makes for a cleaner hole.

I sure the hell wouldn’t think so. I’ve had mine off several times and it’s always spot on….

The same phenomenon happened to a cricket .25 when I added a NC shroud. I noticed it seems to be related to the uses of shrouds equipped with a grub screw

Key,
It’s a screw on and it works very well……..The shroud may be a tad tight when I screwed on, putting some tension on the barrel. I’ll check next time I clean.

Shouldn’t make a “hill of beans” unless the moderator internals are not concentric to the threads that locate it on the muzzle. I’ve positioned my “Hush” shroud just about anywhere rotation wise with absolutely no change of POI. I don’t feel harmonics comes into play unless you jam the mod tight against the receiver thereby “tensioning” the barrel.

I snugged the shroud when I re-attached. I don’t feel there is any clippings, as once I re-adjust, its fine. I may try loosening a tad next time I clean.
