20 fps Extreme Spread w/ EDgun Matador .25 cal (GRAPHIC )
I have not even shot a full tin of Exacts (350 count) through this airgun. Will the Extreme Spread tighten with use or should I be happy with 20 FPS Extreme Spread? I am going to search this EDgun forum for more technical data on how to tighten up the spread and achieve greater long range accuracy.
I have an older (I purchased it used) Matador R3 standard in 22 cal and it has a much tighter Extreme Spread. On my new 25 cal (previously mentioned), I lowered the velocity from 943 fps average to 925 fps average. Of course, the air usage is better. But I’m not so sure about accuracy……yet. It was quite breezy today when I fired off a 5 shot group at 70 yards and the results were not quite what I expected from an EDgun. I’ll just keep shooting the devil out of it and see how that helps it.
From other EDgun (25 cal) owners experience, are the 25 cal barrels pretty smooth? I could run a few patches of JB compound through the barrel but I don’t really want to do that just yet. As long as I can hit a squirrel out to 50 or 60 yards, that is all I really need.

Is a silicon-based lube the best lube to use on steel to steel applications??? I always heard the moly -based lube is best on steel to steel. Please understand, I am by no means and expert (on anything, for that matter…lol) but I took two flat pieces of steel and spread a bit of silicon grease on them. I then started to rub them together vigorously. I head alot of grating and galling. The two pieces of flat steel that I used where VERY clean before I started my little amateur test. Also, I read where Ed (of EDgun) stated that moly lube is best for steel to steel. At least I thought I did.
But back to my Matador R3M in 25 cal. I am going to take forum members advice and run 1000 shots through it before I do anything but swab the barrel from time to time.
My accuracy issues where fixed when I purchased a Harris bi-pod. This handsome little bullpup is shooting on hole groups at 70 yards. It’s amazing! And this is with pellets straight out of the tin. I shot four clips through my gun the other nite and I was still on the reg!!!!! 36 shots is way more than I need when I go squirrel hunting. Oh, I am up to 18 squirrels with my 25 Matador now!!!!! I would like to try some of them Predator pellets through it. I have been hunting in the hickories along the river bank. There are alot of big Fox squirrels there. This morning, I shot on in the upper chest. He fell out of the tree and grabbed a lower branch and perched himself on that lower branch. I could actually HEAR him bleeding out. But I got impatient and eased around the tree. I was, by now, only about 10 yards from him. He was woozy. Seemingly, about to drop any minute! But I decided to place a pellet through his head but my shot went low (as I am sighted in at 30 yards). I forgot to hold 3/4’s of an inch high. Anyway, he fell to the ground and did a runner. He made it to a blackberry thicket. A small one. But I used stomped all through it, parting the brambles with a stick and looking for the feller. Buy guess what I found!!?? A freakin ground-hog hole. My fox squirrel made it to that freakin hole!!!!! 👿 There is no doubt in my mind that he is down there………dead. I HATE to lose wounded game. But I tried. It is my unlearned opinion that perhaps if I had hit him with a 25 cal Predator…..he would have expired quicker!!!!!! I killed three more gray squirrels feeding on hickory (all young and tender) as the morning progressed. I quit hunting and the woods was still alive with squirrels feeding and barking. I even had a couple of deer sneak up on me and snort. I sharted.
Is there any better after your relubing?
Okay, I agree with you.
I’ve opened the regulator, cleared this excess heavy grease and lubed the washers with a thin Hill silicone grease layer.
I just bought the silicone grease Trident (for high pressure equipment) and molybdenum grease Honda Moly 60 but not yet used.
I see that there is still discussion on how to lubricate the washers so I asked you what grease you used.
Ed uses a very heavy grease on the regulator. I think sometimes the workers at EDgun get a little over zealous with the application of lubricant on the regulator. Providing nothing is damaged on your EDgun if you see high levels of ES where you get a really high FPS then a low (not continuously dropping velocity) then I would look to replace the lubricant on the regulator and clean the washers and re-stack them.
Dear KS, what grease specifically do you mean?
After firing a few shots (since lowering velocity from 943 to 920) I decided to run a 9 shot mag across the chrony. The Matador produced an Extreme Spread of only 11 fps…..and I have not done a thing but shoot several pellets through it. On top of that, my groups have tightened up at 70 yards!!!!! Since squirrel season is so close, I think that I am gonna declare this airgun READY FOR ACTION!!!!! I am dead on at 35 yards. A bit over one mil-dot at 70 yards. I have a 5x15x40 Bushnell Legend attached. Good clear optics…..and quick acquisition of live targets.
I have two pear trees growing in my yard and use the pears to either eat or make preserves. A coon had this crazy idea that he was going to get him some!!!!! And so did 2 opossums! A 25 grain pellet to the head changed their plans drastically!
The possums (poor picture from my cell phone but there are two possums):

And the racoon:

Yeah there are folks on here that know their shipt
Thanks KB!
There is great knowledgeable people and airguns experts over here, you will see this immediately if you stay tuned but unfortunately I’m not among them, I’m just good for some “bitching” from time to time.
But everybody brings his small or big contribution and all together we enjoy to stay on TAG!

Thanks Pippo and Keyser Soze!!!! Y’all are the greatest. I will go back through the EDgun forum today (and tomorrow) and search for the good stuff. I am one OBSESSIVE tinkerer…..I ain’t ashamed to say. The thing is…..squirrel season in Tennessee opens in a week and a day (August 22) and my ‘factory trim’ EDgun is ‘squirrel hunting’ accurate enough. I have a good thing on my side: I bought a used 22 cal EDgun Matador R3 (single shot) that is one of the most accurate air rifles that I have ever shot!!!! I am used to shooting airguns with a heavy(er) hammer. I was amazed when I saw the EDgun hammer. I actually thought that the EDgun hammer was just another trigger part!! LOL!!!!!! Anyway……I am……in NO WAY……dis-satisfied with my EDgun Matador R3M 25 cal that I purchased new from Tony.
I have yet to mention this, but Tony, although a man of few words, was GREAT to do business with!!!!!!! I paid. And he immediately shipped. I’m sure that I’ll be buying a 22 cal Matador R3M from him as soon as I save enough squirrel pelts. (squirrel pelts to be translated into dollars) lol
I hope that EVERY forum member has a freakin AWESOME weekend!!!!!!!!! And I mean that!!!! 😎
Hi,
If you are looking for technical, tuning, customising, shooting, ownership, support, unbiased reviews information, etc, etc then I don’t think you can find a better site than this.
To be honest I don’t speak russian so I don’t know if there is a more knowledgable “homeland” site but this is a great site.

KB,
this R3M .22 had an ES of 21 fps when I got it. I shot a 1000 rounds though it and the ES tightened up a little but it still remained at 14 fps. I took her apart cleaned the regulator and set the regulator at 120 bar. I then set the HST to 890 fps with the 18.1. This gives me 82 rounds before it falls and this kind of chony numbers for 82 rounds!
So believe me the R3M can get there. There is a site that provides super technical information…Talonairgun.com! just keep asking questions and the guys on this forum will help you. :8:
Thank you Keysore Soze. I really wish that there was a site where the technical side of Edguns and troubleshooting is explored at depth. I certainly do not like my EDgun any less as I can see the potential. And too……I have never read many (if any) negative reports on the EDgun.
I really appreciate your answer. Let me ask another one: How often do EDgun owners on this site clean your barrels???? Thanks heaps!!!!! kevin
Two things about ES with EDguns in my experience. Time behind the trigger(about 800-1000k rounds) and a stupid amount of grease on the regulator. Maybe the 1000 rounds needed blow the grease out the barrel. If the ES doesn’t tighten after 1k then clean the regulator. My .25 was like yours and I cleaned the regulator and I lightly relubed it with divers grease. I saved the EDgun grease for my front axle of my truck and I still have some leftover. :butkick:
