Edgun Matador R3 Regulator
I own a Edgun Matadador R3 .22 I bought the gun secondhand and it was shooting too fast (940fps and inconsistently) I proceeded to decrease the HST, but it made the E.S too much and didnt decrease the speed much.
So i then turned the reg screw half a turn in. The gun was then shooting 600fps but very consistently. I thought I should turn the reg screw out a bit so I can get about 910fps, but the velocity does not increse past 620fps no matter how much I turn the reg screw out or increase the HST. I even turned the reg screw out so far thet the locking screw only just held on. But I still only got 620 fps
I replaced and lubed all the orings in and around the regulator and cleaned and lubed the six pairs of disks in the regulator.
All tests were done with JSB 18.1grain and fron a 160bar fill.
Any advise of what is going on? :confusedn:

Success!!!! I changed all the Orings again and now it is shooting 820fps with 18.1 grains with SUPER consistency. I didnt see any damaged orings, but clearly there was one that was giving problems.

if you have 2 new orings for it, replace it. If not, lube it up real good. Most of the time is the orings dried up only. Re-lube it, gtg.
The two black o-rings are correctly positioned. No o-ring goes where the pink paint is.
Maybe I am stupid, but I still cant seem to figure out how the orings on the piston should look.
So I did this. I know paint is for kids, but as you said, a picture is worth a thousand words.
The black orings on the piston is what I already have on. The pink oring I dont have on my piston and am wondering if it should be on there?
I will repalce the two black orings AGAIN and see if it helps 😀

HHMMMMMM….. Should there be an oring under the washers?? Mine only has a oring at the top of them and one sitting aound the base of the regulator piston.
Should there be an oring beneath the disks?

Sorry. Those are the o-rings on either side of the stack of reg washers. o-ring()()()()()()o-ring.
Stack orings? Sorry, but I have no idea what orings you are referring to?
I am not sure what the problem is but the next time you have the regulator apart I would replace the two stack o-rings. I has similar problems but not as severe and replacing those o-rings fixed the problem.
Unfortunately the gun is not new it is serial number sn. 0012 and was produced back in 2011. I bought it secondhand.
I shot 400 pellets through before loosening the stock screw and the vertical POI shift was 10 cm at 50m. It was shooting high then low. At this point I put it through the chrony and it was inconsistent like I have never seen before. 880fps for a few shots then 950fps for a few and jumping erratically. I replaced all the orings in and around the regulator including the one that seals the transfer port. I did not adjust anything on the regulator, I only turned the HST down a bit. The velocity jumpings did not stop.
I then decided to take the gun apart again and turn the reg screw in 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn. I then got 605fps, but with a 10 fps spread over 25 shots (150bar fill). Great consistency!!
Now I thought maybe I had turned in the reg screw too much and i should just back it out a bit to get about 900fps consistently.
I repeated the process of backing out the reg screw many many times, but I can only get 650fps at the point where the regulator can still seal properly ( if the screw is too far out the teflon seat wont sit on the metal part and regulate the air). The gun’s consistency is amazing now, but I cant seem to up the velocity. I have cleaned and greased (silicone) the 6 pairs of reg disks and cleaned and lightly lubed the valve. The gun is also not leaking air when not in use.
No puffs of air at all only the air that comes out of the tiny holes at the back of the shroud that deflects the air away from the muzzle.
I cannot understand what is causing this lack in speed!! If a gun is working I have a “If it is not broken, dont fix it attitude.” but the velocity jumpings and inconsistency was not acceptable when I fist got the gun.
I have contacted ED and he told me to check the air valve, but it seems perfect and the spring and everything else looks identical to all videos on the subject.
I know there are many Edgu masters on this forum and i would appreciate any of your help. 😀 😀 :hoot:

I agree. That would be my guess also. They come in brass and in rubber. I use both. These are very easy to loose when disassembling and can often be off center when reassembling. A puff of air in your face might also be an indication that it is missing. The bolt o-ring might also be missing. You will get a puff when that is missing also…
You need a regular tester. Contact Dman111 on TAG to purchase. You really shouldn’t have torn into a new gun. The regulator doesn’t really break in until you have 1000 rounds through the gun. You need to reset the regulator to 120-130 bar. 120 is good for 880 with the 18.1. I left my EDgun R3M .22 alone. Just cleaned the regulator and it will cut cards at 50 yards.
You disassemble so many times, could you have lost the oring between the valve transfer port and breech? 1/2 on the reg go from 940fps to 500ish sound very strange.
How many shots per fil do you get at 500ish fps?
I hope you are adjusting the hammer spring also. With every regulator adjustment you should adjust the hammer spring aswell

Nice! The topic of that link is mine and my situation was basically resolved by replacing the pair of internal regulator orings.
