Q:

22 V/S 25 change of pellets? Crickets

I shoot nothing but JSB 25.39 grain .25 cal and 18.13 .22 cal out of my two crickets,
I may have to change the 22 up a little , Maybe shooting some hollow points or polymags with the 22.
I have been having euro doves fly off as far as 50 yards with a solid middle of the back shot or a full front middle crop shot,
Shots that with my 25 would drop them in there tracks,,, Yes Yes I would like to do a head shot but there bobbing up and down like a pump jack, Just no way to take a clean head shot.
These shots would drop a white wing in there tracks if you could shoot a white wing with a air gun, (ILLEAGEL) , Just maybe be the West Texas Euro doves but they are some very tuff birds…
What’s the best shooting hollow point out there in 22 land,
If you can’t hit it you can not kill it.
Mike
I guess I could buy me a 9mm and forget about the .22

Same here, I’ve tried several different pellets and every time went back to my 18.1 JSBs. A hit with that and down they come. Like Eelect, a lot of my shootings on pigeons over at the elevator. A well placed hit will bring them down every time.

I have to agree with elect when you are going for a kill , a well placement shot will always work better regardless the size of the pellet grain you are shooting .
Both my Talon SS and Vulcan really like The H&N .25 cal. 28.40 gr. pellet . With my Vulcan it is very deadly at 60 yds.

My experience is if I need anything other than the 18 gr jsb then I’m hitting the birds in the wrong spot. I have taken more pigeons with 22 cricket with the 18 g jsb than with my cricket 25 and Vulcan 25 combined. I took one the other day at 70 yards and it went down like a ton of bricks. I have done this more than a dozen times. I decided to use the H&N hunter hollow points last. Week on 50 yard pigeons and have mixed feelings about it. The exit hole was not that much bigger and pigeons didn’t die any quicker. I took camera to next outing and found out as to why some are not taking a tumble as expected. The answer was a poorly placed shot. You hit them right they go down. Some even lie on top of silo for a long time. Bottom line shot placement. Forget about those fancy pellets. They are a joke.

Thanks guys
I am getting an order together now and may try a tin of each,
I guess in a way I was just bragging on the killing power of the 25,
But I am going to try a different 22 hollow point for a better clean kill,
Both my guns are shooting around 940 FPS , and I expect a clean pass through of the pellet,
If not I have to dig the pellet out of the bird before I feed it to my pets,
I always inspect my entrance and excite holes when cleaning the bird, (euro Dove)
I found three tins of Eunjin 22 Cal, 32.4 gr but I have to single load these bad pellets,
They look like huge beeman sliver jets,
Mike

iride , When I was shooting my Talon SS .22 cal. the pellet that was most effective in killing power was H&N Crow Magnum 18.21 gr. I killed
alot of crows with it and also a coyote at 9 yds. with it . Try a tin and see how they will shoot for you .

Hey Mike you might want to try the MetalMags, they’re heavy hitters.

Can’t say you will have to try them, but some Cricket 22 out to 50 yards like them over the Polys.
When the MetalMags make their mark they expand even more then the Polys do, often found still inside of victim.
