Condor SS – POI high for first 9 to 12 shoots?
Hello all, I’m a bit new at this game and been working with a Condor SS .22 cal.. I fill it to 3000psi and for the first 9 to 12 shoots it shoots an inch high at 35yds and then settles down to the zero and around 2500psi. From there it shoots to zero for about 15 to 18 shots which ends to about 1800psi and then pellets hitting low. My question is on the first series of shots being high – is this normal? I’m shooting the JSB 15.8 gr. @ 950. Thanks

In a word….yes. At what PSI are you shooting the 15.8’s at 950 fps? Try your chrony at 3000 psi and again at 1800 psi. I’m assuming you have a chronograph if you know your velocity is at “950” .See what your velocity does in between those pressures. As long as the POI change is consistent as the pressure drops, I wouldn’t fret about it. You can also just fill to 2500 psi and shoot from there. Experiment a bit and see if you can find a sweet spot. :4:

Unless you have a regulator, the pressure will drop with every shot.
There are opposing forces: hammer inertia vs valve lock due to the tank pressure.
You need to set the top hat or the power wheel so you have a bell curve. This means when you start shooting the velocity will increase a little for some number of shots and then starts dropping again.
This way you can have a higher number of shots within and acceptable spread of velocity.
This happens only by tuning the rifle properly and using a chrony to find the top of the bell.
If your gun just drops velocity since the first shot, you are on the other side of the bell.
Adjust the power or the top hat. There are lots of threads here on how to do this.
You want basically to have a bit more valve lock at the beginning so you can start at lower velocity, then increase and then drop again.
You average velocity should be tuned so your spread is not more that 50fps. Most people tune for even less.
You will need a chrony.
