Scotts scba tank? (Fire fighters tanks )
What are your opinions about that Scott’s 4500 psi tanks? Tanks ~10 years old are $65-80 vs a $300 new tanks. Even if I buy an older tanks and only go 4000 psi to refill my condor tank gives me able 20-30 refills. Why buy a $800 tank???

How much are does that compared to say a modern 80cf standard scuba tank at 3450 PSI?
I am still in the stone age with steel scuba tanks! But at least I have a strong breathable air Scuba Compressor! :8:
30min tanks = 45cf
45min tanks = 66cf
60min tanks = 87cf
Using the linked calculator a
80CF – 3442 tank (when full) will fill a Mrod (213cc) from 2K to 3K 19.7 times
66CF – 4500 tank (when full) will fill the same Mrod from 2K to 3K 42.3 times.
So a 45 min SCBA tank basically hold over 2 times the air of a 80CF 3442 tank.
Those do seem as if to be pretty decent deals!

Yes, 10 yr old tank means that it still has a service life of 5 yrs….. So in theory at $80 for five years and buy another… Go another five years and buy yet another…. You would be getting the equivelent of a full service lifespan for a total invested amount of $240.00 for buying a 2/3 used tank.
Seems as if that is some pretty thrifty math to me. Even if you had to bump up that total investment by lets say an additional $30.00 each time, for the likelyhood that the hydro test was not reissued before being sold… For simply only air rifle/utility types of use $330.00 used vs $600.00+ for new or actually more likely “new” surplus tank…. So uh yeah,,, uh what waz the question again? Duh… Oh yeah! Just where is it that these used Scott Tanks being sold at around $65.00 – $80.00 ?

Thanks for the quick update and info. That is good to know. Seems like a much better way to go, as long as you have a way to fill them. I know that Sports Chalet here frowns upon it, but I have one guy at the store near me who would do it if I provided filling apperattus and as long as the apperattus met his own approval. I dont think most of the rank and file staff would be allowed….
But yeah, i have my own compressor so, I should start looking back into this. I also need to check into getting a 4500 bottle on the back of my 257 condor. I am already filling up to 3450+/- a few,,, as I always am shooting tethered off the bench with two fresh chill filled Scuba tanks that I drag along to the range.
I also would like a regulator in between the tether and my fill tank if I had 4500 ……. Its all just money is all! :2cents:
It will be on my wishful list a tad longer.
