Q:

Bit Size for Cover Plates

Got my grommets and looking to do the spring mod to tame the twang. What size bit do I need for those tiny cover screws? Is it a metric hex .5mm bit? What size bit do I need for the stock screws?
Thanks for any info…..

Zonk you can go scratch yourself. First off it would not have fit into the envelope the screw came in. So there

Neither did I Eelect. I think that’s the handle I sent you with the screws, please send it back. Been looking everywhere for it…..

Doesn’t the Vulcan come with long red T handle allan wrench. I have one and it fits stock screws perfectly. I don’t know where else it came from as I don’t remember buying it.

Thanks for the info guys……..eelect, I didn’t get a T-handle hex with my Vulcan. Would have been a nice touch!

Do as Lurker says, but use a small hammer and give it two or three taps to loosen the hex nuts. For some reason they’re VERY tight.

All are metric on the Vulcan. Both stock sxrews are metric “5”mm.
The sideplate screws are “2”mm.
Don’t use the ball hex end of some hex wrenches. They will easily strip out the screw heads.
Seat the hex wrench squarely in the screw and tap on it lightly. Then proceed to loosen them. The will make a snap noise as the screw brakes loose from the powder coat or ? Paint.
Do not use loctite. So far I have only found one screw that the factory used something on. Ou will know it if you ever need to remove it. But probably not.
Only lightly tighten as the surface coat will hold the screws well.
