Q:

Half Mile Distance Exceeded, 905 yds-.257 Video

Hi All,

For anyone who MAY be mathematically “challenged,” a half mile is 880 yds… Everyone here of course knows that. My thinking on the set up was, If I set up my table at the 800 yard firing line, and steel plate is 63-65 yds past the Number Boards in the bank beyond the 1000 yd PITS, I will need 15 yds more for HALF MILE, 880 yds..OK, but still short of 900 yds…..BUT if I set up back of the 800 berm 45 yds I would be PAST HALF MILE an EASY 25 yds and at 905 yds, break that barrier too!! Is what I did. In the VIDEO at end showing the distance VIEW, at end of the scope to the RIGHT, you see the start of the shooting berm for high power prone, and that is the 800 yd line.. I am 42-45 yds back of that so to the plate painted white, is 905 yds easy and maybe couple more even….Steel plate is 39” wide. Camera was tilted in Portrait Mode and get the entire target large..

Was alone, and had NO ONE to spot and did NOT KNOW where hitting on plate… Before I set plate out got the elevation and see dirt kick up. Set plate by driving down and up the hill….Not knowing where on plate hitting just guess.. If I hit low in dirt and saw dust, I fudged a little higher aim. About every 4th shot, not seeing dust, pretty sure impacts were on the plate, I aimed to the right and fired into dirt just off plate. From where it hit, I again tried to adjust the aimpoint, either high/low, right/left…..Anyway there were 3 persons waiting to get on the range. I told them a camera was running and was trying to shoot 905 yds with AIRGUN , so they would have to wait 15 minutes….So I fired quickly and after a number of shots figured I DID BREAK HALF MILE and went down to see..Had hits so picked up plate and cleared my stuff so others could use range. Mid week unusual to see others want the high power range.

I had 19 SOLID HITS on the plate, but scattered not knowing where hits were occurring. ALSO at end of Video I picked up perfectly mushroom slugs, completely collapsed the total length of a 92 gr FB …….Rifle still has that much energy left….Amazing power.

VIDEO, Click lower right corner for FULL SCREEN..At that distance still RINGS THAT STEEL AND FLATTENS THE SLUGS

Awesome! 1000yrds is in sight. Could you give a brief description of your setup. Bullet weight, velocity etc? Would be much appreciated.

I shoot cast bullets I MAKE. 62gr fb, 71gr gc, 80gr fb, 92 gr fb.Depending on distance i shoot…Light ones just plinking at 100 yd range.Heavier ones for distance, although the Lyman 71gr was used on my 600 yd video posted couple months or so ago. ..For the 800 yd and this 905 yd video I use 92 gr ….Also my LAST/FINAL video too, which will post in couple weeks or so? I shoot the 92 gr at 1000 fps…ALWAYS regulated…. At this distance i shoot the 92gr at 3750 psi, mid weight at 3500 psi and light at 3100 psi. I have tested to 1300 fps but accuracy is best at psi i shoot at this time.

Description of GUN COMPONENTS–.Ordered from AIRFORCE Stripped Condor frame which included trigger and breach, TJ 34″ barrel 1-14″ twist, 105 gram brass hammer, I ordered custom 10.4 lb spring to my specifications , carbon fiber sleeve over barrel and a DRAWN ALUMINUM TUBE over that to stiffen barrel, all chemically welded. Others use a LDC and with some barrel tension CAN be a good thing too, barrel weights added to help control harmonics at firing, or poor mans tuner, Hatsan .25 Air Stripper, MADDDOG BENCHREST STOCK, CF bottle 4350 psi, I had a Randy R&L so called extreme valve first, and not powerful for what i wanted/needed. Replaced for 2 guns with the DOUG NOBLE (dyotat 101) .257 VALVE and was the answer, as without DOUG’S VALVE all you have is a pellet gun 😀 Those are basics. NOW GO BUILD ONE 😯 For $2500 with gunsmith machining included is all it takes 😎

Awesome!!! Simply awesome!!

Thank You……..Click on the 1065 yd thread towards bottom of first page as distance was increased to this range and video …….Carl

Thanx a lot for the info, I’m looking at building a .25 for upto 400yrds with +-75gr cast bullets. First need to get some finances going.

Amazing Carl, what’s next?

To rebuild gun for consistent accuracy. Still having POI shifting and at extreme AIRGUN distances it is not acceptable…..Gunsmith is about ready for me to tear it apart in 2 weeks or so.Then do it all again next season with MUCH BETTER ACCURACY?………..Carl

What you are doing is amazing.
