Q:

Best Way to Polish Hammer

Really liking the look of those polished hammers! Is anything gained from this mod, or is it just for the looks? I have a dremel and polishing wheel with some Flitz…..May give it a go, since I’ve been in there already for the hammer spring mod. Will the spring benefit from polishing as well?

I wonder … Can the same method be used for polishing the Knob of ones Dick ?? The Uncle Hootie was wondering about that the other day – and so am i. 😯

I’m thinking Uncle Hoot may need a little synthetic help to get his knob polished now a days, the Knob on my hammer gets a regular polishing anytime I’m fuxing with it…. :P. No particular method for me Ville as long as my “regulator” stays happy!

He does need all kinds of synthetic things these days , that cranky Bastard.

It’s not a big job to do as luker has said. Great string also Deez!

Thanks Zonker!

Yeah, probably right at the point of “fuxing” the gun to try polishing the hammer barrel.

At least it changes to smooth running over rough instead of rough on rough and doesn’t engage the trigger mechanism or hammer barrel…

Very good point.
We should wait for Kris to try that one 😈

The hammer is easy with a dremel and felt.

As for actual improved hammer consistency in the Vulcan…. it’s probably not a huge deal

deez nutz, that is a great string. :8:
Pick up a small sheet of Lexan fron the big box lumber store for a few bucks and let me know how to cut and shape it in a short time. I botched the corners on my first attempt and took almost 2 days. I’ll do better next time if and when.

guykuo, I’d worry about getting the hammer barrel a bit out of shape because of the wide slot but a dowel rod with a slot and a patch with polish should do it.

I’d polish the hammer barrel, but haven’t figured out how to do that without fouling the trigger mechanism.
Seems one would need to completely strip out the trigger system to avoid getting grit into it.

Thanks for the info Ville and Lurker……Good rainy day project, along with trying some different positions with the two grommets I’ve got on the hammer spring. Wishing I had the skills for one of those see thru covers!……

I chronied two mags yesterday on a 250 BAR fill, with one grommet on the rear and the other on the front of the hammer spring, i was shooting at 940 FPS. I had an ES of 2, and an SD of .67 on the second mag!……still over 200 BAR on gauge. I’m happy with it so far. Hope it stays consistent for awhile.

There were wear rubs on the hammer and that indicates a heavy friction area. So I polished mine to decrease friction. Good idea to polish the hammer guide tube. But I just gave it a smear of moly lube. I may have to clean and re-lube eventually but that’s easy once you have had it apart a couple of times.

I’ve not seen any real world benefits but at least YOU know it’s been done.
A polished hammer does squat if the hammer housing isn’t polished and even if it was i still doubt that would have any measurable benefits.
