Q:

So What it is about bull pups…

So I am in the market for a new PCP. I want to get a “nice” gun that does not make me constantly wish for something else. I know, good luck. But I would like to end the gun carousel where I buy something, use it for awhile, then sell it because I read about something that is more accurate and higher quality. I have been reading a lot of posts in this section on the Vulcans and Mutants, and i have to say that I am very intrigued. But I also have been smitten with the Daystate Regal XL. I have always liked the lighter, shorter traditional rifles, and the Regal seems to fit the bill nicely. Then I hear about how “fun” the Mutants are to shoot and I feel like I would be missing out on something special.

I know that the rifles are on opposite ends of the spectrum, but was curious if anyone out there has had a high end rifle and switched to bullpups without any reservations. If I could afford both I would, but it will be a stretch to swing just one.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Yep, she is the BEST! Please check out the new post under the Mutant section!

you are lucky if she said so… go make your order now..

Seriously, thanks everyone. I do appreciate the feedback.

Unfortunately I am all too familiar with farkles after spending a decade long distance motorcycle touring. Talked with SWMBO last night and her eyes got big when I mentioned the price for a new gun / scope. But she uttered those amazing words ” if you really think you want it…”

Now I have to decide which one. I was leaning Mutant Standard…

Thanks again.

aw man, don’t get me started …………..

I may end up buying another Bullpup !

Luv them over the long rifle guns, have been selling them so it can fund getting more pups. :winkn:
and I’ve never looked back.

You need multiple bullpups and the FARKLE’s for both. I had ten PCP’s for a while (trading through many but holding it to a max of ten at one time to compare them) and got it down to a reasonable five recently but added other expensive toys instead. 😆 Small accurate high-quality PCP Bullpups are just better IMO and they keep improving on them. I have owned many PCPs of various flavors. I sold all of the PCP rifle/carbines and stlll seek even shorter ones with all of the cool features as they become available. The only reason I would consider something else at this point is if I wanted to compete again but those days are long gone (did benchrest with a PB a long time ago). Sometimes, though, you just have to try them all to find out for yourself. 😎 Hoot: , Zonk, Keysor, Sir Ville, Wingman, and many others here have traversed the spectrum and can give you plenty of pointers on the benefits of pups and others. I bet someone on here has tried nearly every quality gun out there. There are a few who can’t stand them. 😯

He who dies with the most toys wins.

Yes – at least two is a requirement for adequacy. 😆

Thank you for the replies.

The whole penis thing kind of bums me out. I already said I could only afford one, and would probably need two to feel adequate.

It’s a classic phallic thing. The short bull pups make our short penises seem longer. 😆

From my limited experience a 12″ x .177 barrel air rifle is great for shooting quarter size and smaller groups at 50 yards. My .22 Vulcan matched up it’s 17.7″ barrel with abundant air tank and adequately sized regulator, the barrel breech moved back by the shooters ear with the cocking bolt in a comfortable forward position allowing easier and rapid wheeling the rifle to acquire multiple targets without changing ones stance. Add all that to dime size or better group capability at 50 yards and you have an amazing new style airgun. It may not be the Freudian favorite eiffel tower type phallic symbol but I think he was sanfran sicko anyway.

I like too think of bullpups, as the exotic cars of the air gun world.
Their are air guns for the masses, then their are bullpups.

They are exotic, costly, and some times hard too get.
Like others here I started with big bore air guns, and settled on bullpups.
Now thats all I own, and I’m never going back.

If you are looking at the Vulcan, the maker is going too have a working model,
of a semi-auto Vulcan, for the shoot show, then for sale later in the year for 2016.
I just talked too him by e-mail.

Bettter save your milk money now, this will be a exotic bullpup. 😯

I have had high end rifles. Namely Weihrauch, Daystate, Steyr, Theoben and Rapid Air Weapons. Back then I was a regular on airgunadvice.net (before they moderated the life out of that forum) The switch to bullpups was a slow one for me. I wasn’t about to pay the 3k that they used to get for an EDgun. Then Kalibrgun came along and crushed the market. I had to have one because they were all the rage. It was the first bullpup that gave Ed real competition in the market place. I got the gun and fell in love with the gun’s simplicity. I was used to complicated German or English machines that required Allen Z’s master touch. Waiting months for him to tune my gun and hundreds of dollars for the service was the norm for me back then. What the Russian bullpup provided me was pure and efficient simplicity and I really fell in love. A gun that could be stripped, tuned, fixed and shooting again in my workshop in less than 30 minutes and then shot just as well as my super tuned Steyr. After that first Kalibrgun I went bullpup mad. I have a favorite bullpup but that really doesn’t manner. The fact is they are simple and sweet. I doubt I’ll ever go back.

Bull pups are a preference and that’s about it. Most of them are regulated which make them very attractive to buyers. I have them as I need a short ,high shot count , accurate, airgun. Only a bull pup can fill this position. So if your needs are like mine then look no further. If they differ then my friend you best start hunting for your style of gun. I just can’t believe Kaliber gun slaughtered the gun as they did. They should have just made it another 6-8 inches longer then it would have really been a winner. Then the fx with the mile long barrels too. Man why not put skies on it and take it for a ski ride. That would kind of hint why so many guys prefer the pups.
