Air Tube De-Pinger

Has anyone actually tried an air tube depinger in their Vulcan?
I’m not asking about something on the hammer spring, but the kind that goes inside the air tube.

I’ve read about this mostly for guns don’t have a regulator, but some regulated guns also seem to be getting them installed. On the other hand, I also read that guns with a regulator won’t benefit from an air tube depinger. Welcome to the world of conflicting information.

Has someone tried this already and checked the actual result?

OK look, my .177 reg had a total body length i.e. from the base to the top of the brass adjuster of 71mm. and that was around 90bar.

yours will be I guess 72 or even more. I assume the Belleville stack is the same. I may be wrong.
what I mean is on some guns to adjust the regulator output it is not sufficient only to change the compression but you have to also altere thee way the Belleville dishes are in the stack

I believe in the Vulcan it is not needed but cant confirm.

what I mean is some guns have (())(())(())(()) and some ((()))((()))((( or so. principally both can be compressed to give the same force but while one will have little play, willhave flatter disck the other will have more free play. I hope you know what I mean.

don’t play with this as of now until someone who had a reg apart ( I have not) to confirm. but I believe you can just snorten the gap between the seat and the metal bit with the hole to decrease the output. you have to measure it so you can adjust back, and ideally yuou need a reg tester, I have not got one so I measured only.

I hope this info helps. your ideal setting will be more than mine, but closer to mine that your current one.
you have remove the regulator from the AT to adjust, no way you can adjust it from the other end.

sniperqty is adjusting the regurn spring tension with his aluminium tube, but he has got a loop/hook on the reg that is how he is pulling them out.

principally you need to screw the brass top of the reg in after unlocking the big nut around it, half turn in and try. good luck.
it may be a time consuming process, but 145 is too high, lot of wasted air.

My .22 Vulcan definitely needs the regulator turned down ❗

I have not attempted to adjust the reg yet as that is new ground for me.
•Note -After having shot that 93 shot string down to about 118 BAR, things somehow went bad and velocity jumped over 100 FPS. Eventually I got it to settle back to about the same as before at 908 FPS but I was initially trying to find consistency in the area of 185 FPS. With my OEM adjusted regulator so high I was literally chasing the wind.
So now I’m affraid to shoot below 140 BAR for fear the regulator will go ZONKERS again.
If someone could explain, in english, how to adjust the regulator down without going to far, I’d greatly appreciate it.
Zonk had his regulator set to 120 BAR and it worked good for a short time but is acting up again. That makes me wonder if something in there may have come loose ???

Kris, your explanations of not needing spot on duplicate velocities or higher velocities was helpful too. But as you also suggested more often we need to tune things down. Especially in my case where my regulator is at least 25 BAR to high. And many of us have been chasing the twang when we should be turning down the regulator to eliminate it. THANK YOU TOO :thumb:

So de-gassing understood, can I just make a PVC tube into a tool to turn down the REG and about how much does 1/4, 1/2, 1 turn effect the change in BAR ??? And which direction.???

lower your regs down so much less hammer preload is needed and it will not ping. why do you neeed to have 900fps for all costs?

So some effect, but not a big difference with a mid-tube depinger.

Ernest’s report of fixing a ping coming from the spacer seems strange given over 1,000 lbs of force the regulator is pushing against that spacer with a 100 bar difference between the regulated and main portions of the tube. He attributed the ping to the spacer being loose, but I think he inadvertently created a damper for the tube ringing rather than fixing a looseness issue.

yes i put one in mine.
i used a piece of rolled up rubber, in the middle of the air tube.
i think it did help some, i also tryed two of them, but i saw my shot count go down.
so back to one, for me. :popcorn:

I think Ernest de-pinged the regulator. I emailed asking to buy the parts but no reply yet. Probably should PM or call if you have his number. Let us know what you find out.

I think I read some where that Ernest has done this. You might want to ask him….
