Condor SS shooting opposite to what I expect after Cleaning
I cleaned the barrel of my Condor SS, .25 the other day using a 50-50 mix of Kroil and Shooters Choice Bore Cleaner. 3-4 patches with cleaner until no residue then 3-4 dry patches.
Then out to shoot a target at 30 yds to zero. Calm day, shooting EK Heavies, (MK I not II), off a Primos Shooting rack. Filled to 2800psi. Each target is a five-shot group.
From experience, it usually takes maybe 15 shots to get the barrel seasoned and for the groups to tighten up with my other rifles.
In this case, first five shots, group 1, (top left), was one hole then as I shot three more, each succeeding group got looser and looser. I mean what the heck!?
Would anyone like to throw in their theory? I’m at a loss. Here’s a picture of the targets:
As you can see #1 is one hole and #4 is scattered with a Shift in POI…. FYI: All screws tight and loctited with blue. The barrel bushings have been painted with clear nail polish to fit tighter in the barrel. The action is mounted in a Maddog stock.
I am going to try a different scope when I get a free weekend…too dark now after work to shoot.

I can honestly say I have never cleaned an air rifle or pistol. If I ever dropped one in the dirt, mud or water I would clean it.
For example I have a Pardini K10, probably one of the finer match pistols out there for 10m with over 5,000 pellets through it that has never been cleaned. I wipe the outside with a silicone rag everytime I put it away, but that is it. I still shoot it is the 570-580’s every other day. If I miss a shot I know it is me and not the pistol or H&N’s I use in it.
I do however fire a stack of three felt cleaning pellets through all of them twice a year. But to me that is not really cleaning. just oiling the bore to prevent corrosion.
I have also replaced barrel bushings as well as baffles with new. no difference. painted baffels with clear fingernail polish to take up slop. No difference.
I was surprised to see the nice tight group…. didn’t expect it to be that tight after cleaning …then it started opening up which is bassackwards.
I really do need to try a different scope as POI shifts make the scope suspect. I would also like to tear it down and lap the barrel with J-B bore cleaner then finish with Mothers. I’m using the TT tophat wide open shooting JSB EK Heavies. probably shooting those around 920-940fps.
The Heavies shoot better but I get similar POI shift with the Exact Kings.
Sounds like your battling inconsistent eye relief, the bottle is a horrible for consistent cheek placement. Maybe alittle parallax error in there too. I do the same thing when shooting my condor, shoot a sweet group then move to the next target and shoot a sweet group in a differant part of the target…lol. Pretty much chasing poi with the rectical from target to target.. I’m I close?

Accuracy varied….I have had strange results from this gun all along. It will shoot 5 shots through one hole then the next target you’ll see drastic POI shift with many shots through the same hole then with the next target you might group loose..then another tight group, just very inconsistent. You could blame it on me but I can shoot one hole groups after another in the same POI all day long with my Cricket or Marauder.

Seems to me as if you have done what needs to be in order to have an accurate rifle.
Fact is that your rifle is grouping (even if not at the same place) but at least some pellets hit the target close to each other. Furthermore, the more you shoot, the more “flyers” you have.
I think that Ken is right, the round bottle is not the best solution for consistent cheek weld, as well as eye relief. In the beginning of your shooting session you’re consistent, but as you move on, your concentration goes down and you’re moving your head around. If anytime you have some parallax error, if your scope is not correctly adjusted, all this adds up to the result you have.
Made the same experience myself, but know that it’s not the rifle, as I have a sample group from Tony after he had tuned it.

For cheek weld, Tony offers two tank covers which help address this issue. Alternatively, some of the members here created their own solutions, just don’t find the posts. I’ll edit and insert the link, when I come across the posts.
