Q:

All factory parts talon VS talon tunes condor .22

Awhile back I purchased a talon in. 22 from midway for $360 shipped. It was new, quick detach, with 18″ barrel. I wanted a gun I could up the power with or plink around if I wanted. I also wanted larger shot count. Seemed like an excellent match. After getting the gun it would not adjust via the power wheel so I chopped the spring and bingo I am good to go. I was shooting 400 to low 900s with CPHP. This was great but I got to looking at the gun and realized the valve port could be drilled to .125″ and it would increase the cross sectional area of the valve by 25%. Took me 15 minutes and automatic 120fps increase.

Now the gun has the power if you want it, or can shoot at 400 fps.

Later on I came across a condor with .257 barrel and I bought it. Luckily it also has a talon tunes tune and uses their high flow valve as well. It has amazing power. I got the idea of buying a 24″ .22 barrel and I decided to chrony the condor and the talon. I’m impressed with both guns but more so with the talon. I had both power wheels set at 8.

Talon with 24″ .22 barrel and modified factory valve and hammer spring.

Kodiak 21.14 gr fps 1021, 1020, 1016, 1016, 1015. Average fpe 48.95
Pdg bomb 26 gr fps. 992.7, 991.7, 991.6, 987.8, 990.1 average fpe 54.51

Condor with 95 gram hammer, heavy hammer spring, and talon tunes HF valve. Same barrel as above

Kodiak 21.14 gr fps 1153, 1148, 1147, 1145, 1142 average fpe 61.29
Pdg bomb 26 gr fps 1126, 1128, 1125, 1116, 1117 average fpe 70.65

I need to note that the Pdg are horribly undersized and weigh 25 gr on average though listed at 26. I used 25 gr to do the calculations for the fpe. I also had to enlarge the skirt for a tight fit. The talon dropped from 2950psi to 2775 psi on the tank gauge. I think 50 fpe with Kodiak is possible. I have shot JSB 18.13 but they shot slower then I thought. I may not have filled the tank fully or had the pw set at the same. I think they shot in the 980fps range.

The condor may still have some power in the wheel.

Just get a .25 Caliber barrel for the Condor. Great for pesting!

Oh I know the condor has more assume to her. I was trying to get a fair comparison with both guns on the same power wheel setting. At the higher fpe the accuracy suffers.

I think I am going to be selling the condor.

Thats a nice pair you got. Lol seriously though they look solid. Might try a heavier pellet. I have found my condor responds better to heavier pellets. Right now with a stock tank setup i get 40 fpe with 25 gr jsb and around 50 with 32 gr ej. No changes in anything but the pellet.

70 fpe is good but that condor has alot more potential.

At 45 yards I was getting average 7/16″ groups with JSB 18 gr. That’s my go to pellet right now. I am shooting them right at 920 fps for nice groups. I think the gun can do better though and I am looking into running a regulator with 4300 psi tank. Sadly the only viable 4300 psi tanks are Ching Chong tanks. I am going to have one thoroughly tested before shouldering it that’s for sure. I am interested to see what type of groups I can produce regulated at 50 and 75 yards.

I have 2 at44’s and they have been shooting far better then Airforce guns. I like the mod’ability of the airforce guns and am looking into 30 cal and 35 cal.

You have all the right equipment to have a lot of fun :8:
You should be able to get good to excellent 5 shot groups at 50 yards.
Watch out for to much speed for 50 yards shooting though. Generally the high 900s FPS WASTES more air for little speed gain while doing screwy things to the pellet.
With slo motion cameras or sometimes by naked eye in bright sunlight you can see what looks like a half foot spiral. That won’t help hit your target consistently at 50 yards.

It’s all fun and you can shoot until you’re tired, on the cheep 💡
