Q:

Talon SS Safety Problem

I purchased a new .22 SS about a month ago and have a problem getting the safety to release. I would say that 4 times out of 10 the safety doesn’t release and the only way to find out is to get in your shooting position and start to squeeze the trigger, then put the safety on and then release it and start my shooting sequence again. This is especially frustrating as the safety comes on every time you cock the rifle. I have 3 other pellet rifles and 8 other rifles and no other safety is an issue – of course none of them come on with every shot. The safety doesn’t feel any different when it does or doesn’t release. Any thoughts? I haven’t contacted Air Force yet but plan to do so after New Years.

I know if it’s a new gun working on the safety will void your warranty.

But if anyone come across this problem and it’s pass its warranty you might what try and straighten out the safety plate.

It being slightly bent will cause this issue, it did in mines …….

Damn it,,,, I gotta get Maddog one of these days!
I used to hate the trigger until got it tuned using the supersear, now the stock is what bugs me most!

Thanks for your input. I ordered a stock this morning.

smkhol , Glad to hear that your problem with your Talon SS has been fixed . Never had a problem with my Talon SS . I do have
the Maddog ultimate stock on my and all I can say is Airforce should have bought the rights for it and put it on all of their rifles .
Once you put that stock on your gun and see how good it shoots and how good it feels in your hands when you shoot it you won’t
want to go back to shooting it as it comes stock from Airforce , it truly makes that big of a difference in shooting it with the
Maddog stock and worth every cent you pay for it . Try it you’ll like it .

I sent it to Air Force, they received it on 1/15, they fixed it, and I received it back on 2/18. Over a month for probably less than 1 hour of actual repair time. Either they have a lot of returns or they don’t give much priority to warranty work. The good news is that everything works great! Its a different rifle now. The safety functions perfectly and has a very positive feel and the trigger is very good. Before it felt rough and didn’t seem to be consistent. So 3 months after purchase I’m happy and see why these guns are so popular. Now….maybe a maddog stock! What do you think?

Any gun that has a issue with a trigger and safety should be serviced at no cost by the manufacturer or distributor. It is mandated by the US Consumer Product Safety Commision.

Thanks for the info but my first try will be returning it to AF under warranty. Talked with them yesterday and got an RMA number, have to ship on my dime. Also, my valve on the spinloc tank started to leak yesterday so its all going back. Luckily I saved the shipping boxes. I own 3 other pellet rifles and 8 other rifles and they all have very positive on / off safeties. This one doesn’t, so it has been a pain.

I had the same thing happen to me with my talonP. If you have the new trigger, there should be an auto safety sear. I remove my and have had zero problems.
