Q:

Ernest Tuned .25 Vulcan Insight?

Seeking some insight from Ernest and any others that can enlighten me…..

Acquired a new to me .25 Vulcan. Original owner posted a big review of it on The Yellow forum right after receiving it. According to him, after doing an initial 200 shots to let regulator settle in, on a fill of 240 Bar – 120 Bar, he got 58 consistent shots of around 928 fps, with and ES of 3.6 fps.

However, he said in an effort to make the gun more backyard friendly, he sent it to Ernest to have it tuned down in speed and regulator efficiency tuned. Per the tune sheet, it now shows a fill of 190 Bar – 130 Bar, giving 22 shots before falling off the regulator. Also, the speeds are now 887-897, an ES of 10 fps.

Can someone tell me if I should fill this higher than 190 bar (ie 220-240 bar) to get more shots per fill, or is it going to throw speed consistency off or waste air? Also, shouldn’t reduced speed of approx 30 fps definitely increase shot count? I sure wouldn’t mind getting 6 mags per fill vs the current 2.5.

I am still learning how all these different tuning combinations work and am only looking to become more knowledgeable. Any input is greatly appreciated!!!

Yes that’s what I’m referring to

Are you referring to the HST that has a HEX hole instead of the one with the 2 holes and requires a “tool” like ring pliers or the HST adjustment tool from hagantool@aol.com?

Ernest,

Thanks for the reply!!! I will test shot count when I get my tank bank from hydro and can fill to 240 bar.

I just wanted to clarify before I go and start screwing things up lol! I wouldn’t mind it shooting a bit hotter (as long as I can get it to group well), but it looks like it has the old style HST screw. I may look in to updating that if it’s not too big of a pain.

I have a Cricket .25 that was tuned by you as well, and it is absolutely wonderful. You do great things with these guns!!!

I think the reg pressure was lowered to max out at that speed so the 1st shot to be in the ES. if max speed in the 930 then lowered to 880 by HST the 1st shot is going to be low after its been setting for hours or next morning.

didn’t know they have a new HSTA=====I was going to make one with a longer spring guide—got busy to make it.

Haven’t tested the shot string prior to de-tuning that .25.

I would have advice to leave it along if it was getting that shot count and ES and just lower the speed by HSTA.

low on air so unable to fill 240+b, if you can fill to 240b please test shot count.

most of the .25 Vulcan I seen have ES around 10fps and around 40 to 48 shots per 245b fill. cricket .25 with a longer AT gets around 50-55 shots per fill average at 935fps.

let me know your shot count at 240b, if low send it to me for a 2nd look maybe something I over look for not filling to 240b shot string. and add updated mods. I think I add 2 depinger inside the At that would have lowered the shot count—I can remove that to increase the shot count.

PM me!

At 890-900 fps I get 4 mags easy with a 230 bar fill. Fill it to 230 minimum
