Reticle Ghosting Problem?
New, first Leapers/UTG 3-9x40AO True Hunter Rifle Scope owner and having trouble with reticle image.
Hard to describe and couldn’t create good photo but I call the problem “ghosting” and it looks *something* like attached drawing.
Worse for Red/Green and in darker environments.
Discussion, via eMail, with Leapers tech support is ongoing but I think the consensus is that the issue is not a scope defect.
Wondering if anyone else has seen something similar and hopefully found a cause/solution.
Thanks,
Bob

First, the Leapers scope seems well made – Solid construction, smooth focus controls, positive reticle adjustment clicks and has zeroed fine. On balance, with the exception of being a little heavy and pending outcome of the “ghosting” issue, I think it’s a decent scope for the money.
And in my opinion, Leapers technical support has been great – Offering prompt, good feedback and diagnostics in an attempt to identify cause of issues. Even received an unexpected call from knowledgeable person which resulted in a lengthy, helpful discussion. Also readily offered RMA for the product.
(The only negative in regard to Leapers RMA is that their process requires return of product, I believe at my expense, and then waiting for their Warranty department to analyze and if possible reproduce symptoms. Next step is determined by outcome of Warranty team findings. Overall could take a couple weeks, with my Condor essentially useless during that time. Alternatively, and maybe a better option, is free return as defective to Airgun Depot for direct replacement.)
FWIW, I was led to thinking it might be a scope problem because the ghosting just seemed too consistent and repeatable to be caused by other factors – Every time I shouldered the Condor and sighted a target the strange image was present in same location and size. Never experienced similar phenomena with other optics.
However, at this point, I’m not convinced the scope is defective. My inclination is that the problem is a combination of Condor stock geometry to scope sight axis, which to me seems a little troublesome to my sighting comfort, and my relatively poor eyesight which requires fairly strong, sometimes problematic contact lens correction. Exacerbated by some characteristics of an “illuminated” scope as implemented by Leapers. Still experimenting and will post updates as available.
Thanks to all offering feedback.
