Q:

What am I missing here? No barrel grub screw???

Gen2 .25 Vulcan: Just got the rifle a month ago. Sent back to TopGun my airtube with a gauge that won’t go above 210bar. Petr very kindly offered to do a free Phase-1 quieting on the shroud while I am already sending the airtube back, and he did a same-day turn-around and shipping back. Amazing! The reason I sent my entire air tube and not just the gauge because the Gen2 .25 does not have the airtube bleed screw anymore.

So with the airtube back and shroud off I wanted to clean the barrel. After some normal pull-throughs starting at the breech suddenly the entire barrel pulled right out of the action when pulling on the cleaning string. WTF? So I assumed the barrel grub screw that is under the flathead screw loose. No big deal. So I took the flathead screw out and nothing is underneath. I figured maybe it got loose and fallen somewhere. But no. So then, I wondered what if the flathead is the only thing supposed to be holding the barrel acting as the grub screw? So with the barrel out I screwed the flathead back in but the threads do not even come out on the bottom where the barrel dimple sits. So clearly, there supposed to be a grub screw there. I watched Rowe’s video on barrel removal/reassembly on a .22 Vulcan that only has a grub screw and no flathead screw on top of it. In the video he also mentions that the .25 has also a flathead vs the .22 which has only a grub screw.

So now perplexed, I went to my .25 Gen1-mod Vulcan previously owned/tuned by Travis at WAR (which I bought at about the same time as my Gen2) and removed the flathead screw by the barrel breech, and again….no grub screw holding the barrel. WTF??? The AirgunTech manual only shows one grub screw (#50) and no flathead screw above, so clearly it has not been updated for the Gen2 (bleed screw gone from airtube). (And the manual is probably for a .22 Vulcan with possibly 99% of the parts being the same.)

Am I missing something? :confusedn:

Here is a photo with the flathead fully screwed in. Does not even show inside where the barrel sits:

Here is Ernest’s video:

same issue happened to me friend and i replaced the top barrel screw to the longer one,,,and fixed the problem,,,

One thing of note that Petr from TopGun brought to my attention to. I wasn’t aware that the air can escape through that port-hole if you only have a hex-head set screw instead of the flat-head. Both the transfer port and the port-hole are between the two barrel-end o-rings and air can go around the barrel itself from the port hole to the top port-hole. If the screw there does not seal, air can escape through the port-hole when a shot is fired. He said that this may have been an issue on some rifles that had the hex-head set screw and threadlock supposed to fix that.

That’s not a bad idea! Hope it works out. :8:

Ok, so I read this post here: http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=33789&p=346235&hilit=barrel+grub+screw#p346235

Apparently, the grub screw on the .25 is just a port hole to observe the dimple on the barrel. The barrel is really held secure by the four screw on the large clamps holding the airtube as well. So I assume that I need to stick something in that “port hole” while I am securing the barrel back in its place to make sure the dimple is lined up perfectly. Then tighten the clamps and remove whatever I used to push in there, and put back the short flathead screw “port-hole” cover. And must remember that anytime I loosen the airtube/barrel clamps the barrel is subject to move or rotate…. :angrymob:

I think one of these “rolling ball tip” screws could work instead. It does not put pressure on the barrel, but the spring-loaded steel ball helps align the dimple:
