Lelya refinishing
Does anyone know what type of wood that the Lelya stocks are made of? I made some small changes to the stock to make it fit me better. Now I need to either stain it or dye it. Just trying to see what route I should take.

If i was going to do it again i would have used lighter stain. With out stain it would have been way too light. I tried with just water to see how it would look and just too light for my taste.
My highly personal opinion is that it is too dark, I would not use any stain at all but that is personal preference :fishing:
I will get some pics outside when the weather is better.
Here is what I did.
Form stock to liking with dremel, then file, then smooth with sandpaper.
Remove all finish from stock with sandpaper. I used a electric sander and a drill with a 3/4 sanding wheel.
Sand entire stock with 120 grit, repeat with 220 grit.
Wipe down stock with wet cloth and let dry to raise fibers.
Sand with 0000 steel wool.
Repeat last 2 steps 2 more times
Stain with walnut color stain, 2 coats
Coat stock with tru oil using finger
after tru oil dries sand with 0000 steel wool
repeat last 2 steps as many times as needed to get the shine you want.
Don’t use steel wool after last step.

Nice, however I cannot give my opinion until I see some outdoor pics in sunlight.
Hemn, this is what i did:
1. Remove Lacquer with normal paint remover ( I had to scrape most of it off with a knife blade)
2. Sand it down with different grit sandpaper, end with 400 grit (I did not sand the checkering)
3. Clean it off slightly so not covered in dust
4. Oil with your oil of choise and let dry
5. Rub with very fine steel wool (0000 grit)
6. Repeat step 4 and 5 until wanted result is reached

I got the Lelya stock all done. Turned out pretty good. I need practice with the tru oil. Here is the before.
And here are the after
I got 4 coats of Tru Oil on the stock now and it is starting to look good. Just like the last stock I did it doesn’t look good until you get a few coats of the Tru Oil on it. Just slow going now, put on a coat and wait a day, steel wool, coat and wait a day repeat.
My scope rings are Leupold rifleman high 1″ rings in silver. However they were so damn shiny that I decided to tone them down a bit using a little Carbon fibre wrap

My stock took a couple of days to finish so no stress Drumie :fishing:
Bro…you have got a very nice stock looking,,, so, i think we all need to refinish our gun stocks ,,,i know Piter has refinished his Lelya stock and he has got a great looking now,,, not all,,,those who have not a good looking stocks…
PS; I like the scopes mounts that you have got on your Cricket?? what is the brand name??

I already used the walnut stain. The stock was just too light I’m color for my taste without the stain.
Dont put any walnut stain
Just tru-oil and try to post us some picture
I sanded parts down so I needed to refinish the entire stock. I got it sanded down, used some walnut stain. Now I am putting on the coats of Tru Oil. Looks like it will turn out good.
