Q:

BiPod That Doesnt Attach Recommendations

I want to use my .177 Cricket Compact for Field Target competitions this summer, Hunter class. Last year they made attached bipods illegal because the directors felt they were a big advantage shooting from the prone position.

Can anyone recommend a bipod that is adjustable from 6 to 9 inches that doesn’t attach?

After Uncle Hoots Reply   :hoot:   I posted to see if it would be legal to make my own bipod on the FT Forum. My post: http://www.network54.com/Forum/451309/message/1457781147/Questions+-+Prone+Position+FTH

The 2nd through 5th photos in this reply is what I am going to make and try with my Cricket Compact:

Any of you guys have mat suggestions for shooting in the prone position? One that is light weight to move from lane to lane and weather resistant for wet conditions.

I have been happy with this one.

Thanks for the ideas Hoot: :hoot: The 2×6 with a notch cut out sounds like a good idea. I am going to see if its legal. It would be stable and easy to setup from lane to lane then target to target. Most matches give a 1 min 30 sec to 2 min per target.

Last season the only support I saw people use were 2 legged shooting sticks or a single pole with a U on top for support. The photo with the guy in the prone position looks to be using a bipod that is not attached to the gun. He is holding it in place with one hand then shooting. The other photo is how 95% of the guys shooting FT Hunter class shoot.

No such animal.

Use a 2 X 6″ board, or a 2 X 10″ board and cut a notch in it for the barrel to rest. Cut it to a reasonable length, then put some carpet or something soft in the notch to keep from scratching the barrel/air cylinder.

You can also buy some lead shot filled leather bags and stack a few on top of each other and rest the barrel on that.

Hell….you can roll up a thick towel and plut zip ties on each end and use that as well. Use your imagination.
