Does venting have an affect on accuracy?
If you have a shroud that fits on to a barrel (slides over it) and the exit hole in the endcap is the only way out, thus making it sealed if you cover that hole up, with sealed I mean if you hold your finger over the hole and try to slide the shroud off the barrel it will create a vacuum and suck on you finger. Same when sliding the shroud on to the barrel, air will blow out the endcap because it is sealed. Am I making any sense? I am talking about a Cricket shroud here.
My question here is if you vent the shroud thus eliminating that vacuum will it have an affect on accuracy?

I do agree with my Noble Uncle :hoot: that is right,,, the pellet is already left the barrel/muzzle/silencer then the blast is coming after ,,, if you see this vid,,,you can see the bullet is left the mussel then the blast will come out ,,, this is for a firearms ,,so PCPs are slower and my Noble Uncle :hoot: is right

Maybe to much back pressure in the tube makes the pellet wobble,
I know the LDC I bought said rated for 18 J , I think that’s Jules ..
well My Cricket 22 shooting 940 psi with a 18.13 gr pellets kind of shoots a little hot, Like a shot gun with that LDC, Five inch group is not real good.
I drilled holes in the front and the back of the LDC and also made the exist hole a little bigger.
Shoots like a cricket now,,, When I run out of sparrows My back up plan is to spray sugar water on card board and shoot fly’s at 38 yards.
More fun than shooting red dots… I know I can use a 177 for the fly’s , but 22 and 25 cal fit my fingers better.

I’ve vented every pcp I’ve owned in the past seven years. I have never found any difference in accuracy, only a reduction in sound. The pellet is traveling so fast it is long gone before the propelling air blasts out of the shroud, and/or vents.
Consider a muzzle velocity of 920 feet per second If my math is correct, considering the pellet travels 12″ from the muzzle to the shroud opening, the pellet leaves the shroud in 1/920th of a second from leaving the barrel. Only a mechanical contact with the pellet would be likely to affect the accuracy of the pellet. Clipping, a “leaded barrel”, a damaged barrel crown would be a few examples of accuracy changing events in that time frame.

The pellet has normally left the shroud before the airblast reaches those vent holes at the rear of the shroud (assuming twice the distance).

Simple test is to close off the existing and compare the 2.
Sometimes it does, but dang can’t tell yah why just yet that on occasion it does happen with some guns but not all.
Not all that sure yet to why but it seem to be related to the way the gun is tuned with its unique combined characteristics.
My Cricket 22 std is an extreme freak and I can seem to figure it out just yet, but it’s a very accurate gun and I can’t even post groups that it does @ 100+ yards.
Yah all won’t just believe how accurately consistent it is …. it’ll just makes TEDs new 25 cal FX Impact look frickin old.

I bought a LDC that was not rated for the power of a cricket 22 shooting 920 FPS, I had to open the end up and had to drill very small holes at the front and rear of the LDC to get my pellets shooting straight ,
Not sure if this is in the line of venting the shroud?
I also bought a shroud for a shorty Cricket, I cut it down to 6.5″ I made a LDC out of it, Its like a shot gun, But its super quite on the 25 Cricket .I know I need to vent it just to many other irons in the fire right now..

It would suck if you vented the oem shroud on your cricket and it decreased accuracy, but is seems most people agree that it does not
I agree Saltwater, makes it quieter and I haven’t noticed any POI changes at all.
When I first got my .25 cricket, I played around with the factory shroud completely off and of course shot with it in place, then I got Donny’s shroud + LDC, and other one clipping issue that Donny helped me correct, I had no measurable differences between POI or accuracy with it. Venting has helped with quietness, but I found no change in accuracy, but that’s just me. I am by far NO EXPERT! I’m sort of like Mike… I’m not much on paper shooting, though I do have a target sitting beside my bird houses and feeders where the sparrow/starling carnage takes place… Once in a while one actually lands on my target holder… It usually doesn’t go well for him when it happens…
I am going to say yes , It helps with tighter groups,
by accident I covered my holes up on my 25 , I was not shooting paper, but sparrows , I just had more misses,
I cut one inch off the PVC LDC and more sparrows started dying,
I am not much of a paper shooter so , That’s that.
