Q:

do you recomend this, over cricket

Well…..

I prefer the taipan….

Couple of reasons…

Very efficient. (One of the best)
Great ergonomics
Flawless and smooth cycling/loading.
Best bullpup trigger Hands downs.
And very quiet.

Just need to make sure you get a good barrel and it’s gold!!!

thanks for answers. i coulnot find this thhread because of forum problems. only question left is accuracy. but i tkink nobody can give answer on this because cricket has cz barrels and mutants korean.

The only mutant that came with the korean barrel is the shorty.

The standards standards came equipped CZ… the manufacture realized that he really fucked up and stopped using the korean barrels in the shortys.

I only own Crickets and an Edgun right now but everyone I have asked with both or sells both has said the Mutant is at least slightly better than a Cricket. I would like a fancier stock for either.

Here’s my take on it. If you want a compact bullpup, you can’t go wrong with either the Cricket Compact or Mutant Short. For me personally, I wouldn’t get a Standard size Cricket since I prefer a more compact bullpup in .177 or .22. I’ll even throw in my take on an Edgun Madator.

Both are very good choices.

– I think the anodizing on Edguns and Crickets are better than the Mutant. The finish on the Mutant is fine but it’s not consistent. For example the airtube was a shiny black while the barrel band and breech was more matte and matched each other.
– That said, the breech on the Mutant is easier to rest your cheek on as it’s not sharp plus the mag is smaller in diameter and fits within the breech really well. On my Cricket, the edge of the breech is really sharp and the mag sticks out of the side so it really requires a cheek rest. For the Cricket, goodluck if you’re a left handed shooter. The Mutant as least has the option to switch the lever from side to side. Also on the Cricket there’s a stupid mag loading lever. It works but it’s a bit of a pain relative to the Mutant’s design which is uber simple.
– As for triggers, the trigger on the Edgun sucks, even a tuned trigger. Mine’s smooth but it has no feel. Pull it and it fires. On the Cricket, it’s a tad better. You can set it up with a little creep to improve the feel but it’s still no match for the Mutant. On the Mutant, there’s so many damn adjustment screws to setup your trigger it’s like a work of art. The feel is much improved over the Cricket and light years ahead of the Edgun.
– Another thing is fill port. The best is the Cricket with the spring loaded one. It could be improved if they allowed for it to be propped open without inserting a fill probe. Mutant fill port cap can rotate to cover the port to avoid debris from getting in. For Edguns Madator it’s just an exposed hole and you have to use a plug to keep debris out. The exception is maybe the newest Madator .30 has a design similar to the Cricket.
– One downside on the Cricket is the picatinny rail. On the front band the way they designed it it’s missing a slot because of a screw placement. As a result it depends on how picky you are when mounting a scope but you’ll have account for that. It’s minor but I’m not sure why they couldn’t designed that better with a countersunk screw instead to allow for the missing slot to be there.

Overall, the Mutant Short is a really nice compact bullpup. It’s kind of ugly until you own one. I do wish the woodstock was made of a better choice wood. It would help if the forearm grip was a tad longer and as you can always rotate the fill port hole and still have access to fill it.

The Cricket Compact is a very unique offering. In many ways the Mutant is better but the Cricket will always have it’s appeal. Especially since mine’s a Compact version.

As for the Edgun, the fit and finish along with the nice Walnut stock trumps the other two options only in those regards. As for it’s trigger and indexing and etc, there’s still a lot left to be desired. Personally, I think I will keep it just to say I own an Edgun. It’s a status symbol of sorts. Besides, selling it would just mean taking a big hit.

It really has so good trigger ? Better than Vulcan ? What I had Vulcan couple of days I felt the trigger is better than on my cricket…

Yes…

The vulcan trigger is descent as a single stage. It really doesn’t have very much as 2 stage.

I was disappointed with it when I got mine.

The mutant is very adjustable. .. and you can change the springs to make it even lighter if desired. ..

There is no play or slop in any of the connections or rods… it is built like a Swiss watch….

Very very nice trigger
