What kind of tophat do I have??
When I look at the end of the tophat (the end that the air exits into the breech) it is hollow and is internally threaded, when I looked at the TT website there are 2 different tophats but both have a ‘probe tip’ with a hole through the shaft below the tip. Mine doesn’t have the probe tip nor the hole, any ideas? I’m guessing the threaded shaft may be for a bushing (which I didn’t get when I bought it used).
I can’t post pics because I’m an old fart and computer useless.
Can I shoot it as is, or would I need the probe tip

You might want to apply a little heat to break any lock tight in there
Seriously? A little one ….
what size allen wrench fits the grub screws?
Unscrew the retaining screw on the top hat and rotate the tophat clockwise to reduce the gap.
When you tighten the retaining screw again, be careful not to overtighten or you might crush the tophat stem.
There are few tricks to keep the tophat in place including plumber tape on the tophat thread and some light locktite.
Adding a small o-ring behind the to tophat can be used to reduce output.
A number of threads here will help you to tune in your rifle with a chrony.
There is a lot of material here. Just look it up and be patient: Soon your are going to know more that you have never thought about PCPs

Apologies Wildfire, the wife was talking when I addressed to Mike 🙁
Hi Mike, I’m just wondering how I can adjust the height of my TH to reduce from the 0.10 to 0.07 as I’ve seen in other posts. I was thinking that those grub screws needed to be loosened to do that, but it seems I’m wrong on that (big surprise). How do I reduce the gap?

Those two tiny little grub screws are the “major downfall” of the factory top hat. They come loose at the worst time, usually when you’re out in the field hunting.
Tony’s inserts may fit your top hat but you will still have the grub screw issue.
I would order up one of Tony’s one piece units. The fact that it comes with interchangeable inserts makes it extremely adjustable.
Welcome to the forum and the world of Air Force rifles. You will have a blast tinkering with that bad boy!

Hi Mike, thanks for your response, I’ll try and get the pic thing figured out LOL, my TH has two tiny grub screws (wrench size unknown, friggin’ small) as well as the threading so it may not be from TT after all. There is no knurling where the grub screws are, the surface is smooth.
I measured from the underside of the TH to the brass valve body on the tank and it is 0.10

Hi TB
It’s really hard to say exactly which top hat you have without seeing it. The Talon Tunes top hat does have the internally threaded “throat” like you described. Another way to tell the difference between the TT unit and the factory unit is that the TT is a one piece design so there will be NO set screws in the collar.
If you ARE using a TT unit without the inserts, it’s normal for the discharge to be LOUD.
If you contact Tony @Talon Tunes, he can most likely sell you just the inserts.
You mentioned a white ring on the end of the hammer where it strikes the breech. Sounds like a “slap mod” designed to quiet the impact of the hammer making contact with the breech upon firing.
Tony is a great guy to work with and has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the Air Force line. Give him a call!

Hi Chris, I was just trying to figure out what kind of tophat was in the Condor that I bought. My first post just showed how little I know about AirForce airguns as this is my first one. My latest post was trying to determine if perhaps the tophat might be a TT one as I don’t have any inserts but the internal throat is threaded. As I said I bought this used, complete with a MadDog stock and it has a brass hammer with a white plastic(?) ring on the end that strikes the breech (the factory hammer and weight were also included). I bought this off a Canadian airgun site and have checked there as well, but haven’t had any luck.
The only real problem is the discharge blast is very loud. I might try adjusting the top hat to reduce the gap to begin with. I realize that these rifles tend toward the louder side without the use of a shroud.
I tend to think that the TH is likely from TT and will likely order replacement inserts to try.

I am not sure what you’re referring to.
The TT inserts are mounted on the tophat side, not the in the tank.
They just restrict air flow coming out from the tophat.
Is your airgun working? What is the problem?
Cheers
Chris
Okay thanks, I bought this Condor last year used so wasn’t sure if it was a factory one or not and I don’t have any way to contact the previous owner to ask. In looking at the tophats on the TT website I now realized (much to my embarrassment) that the probe end/hole I was referring to would be inside the tank when installed, is this correct? I haven’t removed the tophat from the tank yet.
Tb
The TT tophat is a custom design. I assume yours is a standard Airforce designed tophat.

I decided to follow the good advice given here and have ordered a Quick Change TH from TT. Now I’ll know what I dealing with and know that it is a quality item that can only enhance my Condor, again thanks everyone for your input and thanks for your patience too.
