Q:

Short Mutant .22 vs Compact Cricket .177

I was just curious if any of you with the good barrels have compared the two back-to-back just on accuracy? I did that this afternoon and despite nearly zero wind am giving the edge to the Short Mutant. The caliber/pellet difference may be an issue as may the velocity and even triggers. I was shooting 18.1s at 800 fps in the Short Mutant and 10.34s at 900 fps in the CC. Both are doing 1/2″ groups at 50 yards but the Mutant tends to get them even a little tighter more often. I shot 100 pellets – 10 5 shot groups each. I am not seeing flyers with some mild (just looking for any abnormalities and not weighing them) sorting from either gun.

I can get a 65 yard target setup through the woods but that is about it with the leaves now on and a deep creek (15 ft) in my backyard. I will see if they are any different a bit further out. I have some dead trees further out across the creek but I cant get a target up in them to see yet the birdies seem to love to perch on them. 🙂 One at about 75 yards and the other about 105 yards. They are some favorite hangout spots for the local fauna.

I think I would hold that extra barrel and keep the one you have. Barrels are like a box of chocolates unless they test them thoroughly.

My Cricket Compact 177 tuned to 890 or sometimes to 920-930 fps with JSB 10.34g, about 5-6 mags shots on a fill.

My Mutant Shorty 22 is presently equipped with the Listone barrel tuned to 820 fps with JSB 16g and 785 fps with 18g, about 3-4 mags shots on a fill.
This coming Monday I will be receiving a factory CZ barrel from TAG Tony :8: , but I don’t think it will out perform/shoot the Listone.
Just the CZ name alone can in the future be of an easier selling point for me if I decide to someday sell it with the 3 barrels.
The characteristics of the guns tuning may change though, but can’t be sure as of yet.

They both holding about 1/4″-3/8″ ctc groups out to 50 yards depending on the pellet lot and the wind conditions.

Out to 75 yards if windy the Mutant Shorty being a 22 will hold a tighter group and has been bucking the wind better.

Both equally great shooting given if it’s on a good day or on a better one …….. …. ..

Had two competition pistol (USPSA) shooting buddies over shooting the Baby Mutant and Baby Cricket. I think they are both sold on them both but especially the Mutant with the fabulous trigger and accuracy combination. They shot a lot of my pellets. 😯

I am embarrassed to shoot my new Kimber Pro Carry II pistol with them and they are so fast. 😳 I have seen one of them shoot about a 2″ group off hand with a .45 at 30 yards. I can’t do that at 7 yards.
