Athlon Talos Review

Ok guys I promised a review if good , bad , or ugly so here it is . First let me say I’ve owned scopes from old Weaver steel bodies to 30mm Euro scopes and most everything in between . .. So not my first rodeo … First packaging, top notch and nice box and includes a couple coupons on future purchases from optics planet . . The usual literature and literature that lets face it , we all throw in the box and never glance at again. The finish is a nice satin and turrets click positive and seem to hold well … .. Cross hair nice , maybe for longer ranges a tiny bit chubby but nothing like cheapo scopes .. …Wait what’s that ?? Will it pass the box test to see if all tracks properly. ??? I’ll be damned if I know …..
After mounting carefully on a known one hole rifle ( my FWB 300) it was shooting 3 inch groups at 35 yards .. No problem I thought . I just regreased entire rifle and spring so it’s just settling in ……NOPE ….
I went to focus eyepiece more carefully and it’s flopping around like bolt in a oversized nut . locked gun down and with almost no pressure POI on target was moving all over the place … Disappointed is not the word I feel . So I emailed Athlon asking for a replacement or refund. ….. . I’ll update when I hear from Athlon .

Hey Joe,

After reading your post, I started looking at Athon scopes to upgrade my Vortex Crossfire II 6-18×44. Pull the trigger on an Athlon Argos 6-24 x50. Mounted and zeroed in around 30 yards (end of my backyard). Took it out to 50 yard, man this scope is way better! No buyer’s remorse here. My Mutant Short is dead on from 6×24. Couldn’t say that with my Crossfire. Almost got a Vortex Viper, which would have been nearly 2x the price, glad I went with Athlon.Thank you!

Bud

Yeah Cricket , I can live without an AO thats marked a little off , or a crosshair that I wouldn’t have picked …But if it won’t track and stay put without having to ” settle in” it’s nothing but a pain in the ass to me .

You seem sold. Nice to hear about the box test,

New scope is a Winner !!! Very good glass and great focus from edge to edge. Plenty of recticle available movement and it passed the box test not oncebut twice … Eyepiece and side focus both turn smooth but are not sloppy . Focus to my eye is right for distances marked on focus knob. It also does something else that I don’t think guys talk enough about for springers , when you move the cross hair if moves and then stops !!! It doesn’t have to “settle in” Owners of Bushnell and Burris scopes will know what I’m talking about . Overall i d say the scope is a REALLY good value . To rank it with the scopes I have on hand I’d rank it right along with my Nikon EFR 3-9 and better than any of my 3 Bushnell AR scopes . It is better than my Aeons , I’ve owned a couple . Is it as good as my SWFA SS or my 2 Leupold scopes … No , but to be fair it’s not targeted at that price range . Now for the real TEST , would I buy if again after owning one ? Absolutely I would and it WILL be what I buy for my next Airgun . Nice product , Incredible customer service , and dollar for dollar a LOT of scope . Athlon made a believer outta my one eyed ass.

That is the type of Guy I imagine I would be if I was in a similar spot. After all it is the Company and not your paycheck that is affected with warranty issues so just put yourself in the consumers pov and the rest should be simple…

Yeah Kevin and I talked about 15 mins and he never made me feel rushed ….First time in a VERY long time I felt like a dealer actually cared about his customers. Good manners and all !! Yes Sir , No Sir and even a few thank you !!!!!!!!! When was last time you had that happen ? He seemed genuinely interested in making sure that all their customers are taken care of …..IMAGINE THAT !! If nothing else ya gotta give props for that .

Sounds like great customer service so far. fingers crossed the new scope will be spot on.

Wow, that is great CS. Did you talk to Kevin about the problems you were experiencing?

Sweet :thumb:

Well quick update ….Athlon reached out to me first thing this am and is sending me a NEW scope out today …And I will return mine when new one is received . Guess that’s all anyone could ask for ..Bummer the scope didn’t work right . But I work in Quality Control at my job and realize any thing can happen . I have to give two thumbs up so far to customers service for sure !!!! Kevin from Athlon. Personally called me to make sure I was satisfied and is including a shipping label so return is free ……That’s bout good as it gets !!

Bummer. I bought a Talos BTR 4-14x a few months ago and it’s been great so far. This is my first FFP scope and I’m digging it. Let us know what Athlon has to say.

Thank for the review. Lets hope they get you sorted with a refund. There does appear to be a lot of rubbish out there these days. The Nikon scopes normally work well so are always worth the cash. For the prices your looking at I have also had really good luck with Nikko Sterling and Hawke scopes as well so are worth a look.

Yeah Cricket I have little doubt their more high end scopes are of a better quality …….PS I don’t have a problem with Chinese made stuff , just a problem with bad quality . I’ll wait and see how it goes

Wow. One of their line of scopes (i think the 1-6) is according to their website made in japan. Nice review
