Mutant Short vs Standard – which is better??
It seems everyone wants the Mutant Short, but why? Isn’t the Mutant Standard more powerful, higher shot count, and better accuracy with longer CZ barrel? I think the standard is about the same length as the Vulcan bullpup, so still a nice size.
I’m asking because I’m really considering a Taipan Mutant and just cannot decide on which one. I like them both for different reasons.
And then the rumors of a .25 version coming out… oh boy. What to do???

How is parts availability?
And is the short as accurate as the standard or does it lack in range?
You guys can brag all day and all night long about how great your Mutant is . I really don’t give a shit about them , just like I don’t
give a shit about Eds new gun . Until either one can make a shorty semi-auto , you still only have a single shot or a repeater air gun .
In this air gun market that is nothing new and I already have one of each . In order to get my interest and money they will have to
come up with a semi-auto shorty , and if one does they will pretty much own the market regardless of caliber . Not just myself would
love to have one , many of you who read this post would die to have one also . :8: :8: :8:

I think Dman really likes this gun for a reason and I too will back it up by saying I’ve owned the Cricket, Edgun, Hummingbird, Vulcan and p-rod and the Mutant takes the cake. I have the compact BTW. Other than the Mutant, I’ve sold everything else except for my first gun the Matador. I keep it as a reminder that that was the gun that got me started with PCP. Each of these guns were all great. But I just kept reaching for the Mutant every time I wanted to shoot. So the others were just sitting pretty.
Here are things I like:
1. IMO quietest out of the group
2. Easy pellet loading. Unlike the Vulcan, you had to load one at a time and wind the mag. M fat fingers got tired after a while
3. Loading the mag was nice and smooth, didn’t have to use two hands like the Cricket, or attach the mag to a bar and swing down (Vulcan)
4. Butta smooth cocking
5. Compact
If you don’t need a real short bullpup then I would suggest the standard. I thought I’d start taking my other guns out after the new smell wore off but damn if I don’t grab my mutant every time. Some say the stock is ugly but I like it. Shoots good offhand and is well suited to bench rest as well. Got bored at the range last time and started popping clothes pins off the targets at 100 yds. :4:
As far as performance the mutant sits right at the top of the bullpup food chain.
Put it this way.
Trigger. #1
Ashetics #1
Air efficiency #1. (Edgun is a close 2nd )
Loading/magazine cycling. #1. Effortless.. and Yes butter smooth.
Makes the fx feel like you stuff your probe full of metal chips.
Accuracy well with the right barrel the shorty is a dam laser… now they coming with the cz barrels and guys like Tony are a no bs attitude get you a lazer beam…
Looks… I’m partial so i give it to the 3rd spot.. just cause a lot of guys say it’s ugly… boy she can shoot though and it handles like dream… honestly they did well with the stock.
So let’s stop talking about this before me and the std mutant have to reunite…. yeh I got rid of my eddie and I have a pile of 18.1s to sling
With Tony teasing it’s gonna make me.break
My shorty loves the 16s
So go buy one…. hurry
It depends on your needs my Shorty is getting 48 shot with JSB 16g @ 820 fps from a 220 bar fill.
The std would indeed get more but I don’t own one …… just of …… yet ? :winkn:
The trigger is sweet got mines down to 6 oz and is the best trigger on any BP I’ve own and try so far.
Very compact the smallest of the bunch, quiet, light in weight, quick to bring up in very tight places and just as accurate as all my other pups .
Just install the new CZ barrel TAG Tony sent me a couple of days ago and already I but some 3.5k pellets though it already …….
~ Greg , A joy to shoot …….. I love my Shorty ….. a joy to shoot … gone pesting, I’ll be back when the cows come home ……… . :fishinghole:
Actually i have no financial ties to the importing of these guns. How the story goes… I found these gems and hunted down the manufacture… then i found a way to get them here… I brought in some guns …that is when i passed these onto the current importer..
Obviously there is a lot more details but not everything needs airing on the forums…. anyhow I love the mutants.
Aright (yeah I spelled aright correctly) I’ll not hold the import stuff against you. But c’mon man give me your honest opinion of the standard vs the shorty. Like I said, I already own a tack driving Vulcan, if you were me, which would you get? Yes Ernest Rowe love the shorty, but I would like to hear from everyone else.
Lol, thank you Anthony, I think you will find that I add a certain humor to the forum and I very much enjoy air gunning. Hat’s off to you.
And remember this shit gets indexed by Google, so now’s your chance, don’t hold back. Hahahaha
Edit: I’ve had a few vodka shots, so forgive me if anything I said is offensive, I do apologize.
Importer…. NO

I was going to ban you…

Alright Dman, unlike Airgun Nation, I got nothing against you. But, as the importer of the Mutant, how can I be ensured of your unbiased opinion? Hell yeah I want one, but I want to be sure it’s worth trading in a Vulcan. Make me feel good about it. Spill the jizz and don’t hold back! Lol

I can guarantee you that the trigger on the Mutant is far better then that of the vulcan… That alone will have you shooting it more.
I had a .25 vulcan. I didn’t care for it. The mutant is far superior cocking and smoothness cycling.
Now if the .25 mutant were out yet id be getting one of them TOO…
now back to short or standard… HMMMM…. thats a tough one.
That’s what I was thinking, if I like the Vulcan, then I would like the standard. But, I already have a Vulcan and maybe I need something a little different like the Mutant Short. What’s the point of having two very similar guns. My Vulcan .25 is a tack driver, can’t see selling it. I wanted something a little less powerful for back yard plinking. Maybe the shorty in .22? But dang, I hate to trade 6 inches shorter for power, shot count, and accuracy. Then again, maybe if I had a shorty to test, maybe that’s the way to go. Or a .25 cal short, then I can share pellets between the Vulcan and Mutant.
Confused I am…
Dude its a no Brainer…. If your happy with the length of the vulcan….
Here yah GO another no Brainer http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=34898 Tony has a nice deal going on

I am curious about sound comparison….. I know the standard is longer (bigger shroud) but is it a huge difference?
