Q:

Carbon Fiber Tank Shot Count Increase ?

Using a Talon Carbon tank on a Condor, in general how many more shots can you expect.

As an example if shooting 25 cal JSB King Heavy pellets at 875 fps …. can I expect to get 10 more good shots in the bell curve ?

I would keep everything stock except I would use a TTTA. I would fill to around 3500psi

I’m happy after my shooting with Doug and Nick that I can see my goal of a 975fps average is very doable …. I may step the long range energy up a big notch once I see what the new CF tank and Doug’s valve gives me, by changing what bullet I use. If I can get in the very high 900’s or low 1000’s with the 72gr pill, I will try the Arsenal 85 gr FP Spitzer. If I can get a velocity of 925-935fps+ with that bullet I will be entering a section deep into the bowel of the cold dark world known as “Cave 257” that once inside you never come out ;- )

Sounds good… I also have a Doug modified 53 cu in tank awaiting a valve. Doug’s in the process of building my rifle as we speak. Full on .257 Noble build. I’ll stick to the 53 cu in 3k tank, as that’s what Cedric has been so successful with (i think).

It’s been a long wait for my Doug Noble .257, but I don’t mind at all. Perfection is worth waiting for. I think it’s going to be my only slug shooter. I don’t particularly want to invest in more reloading stuff… I’m already set up (with parts) for .300 BLK, 30’06, .45 acp and 9mm. I of course will have a .257 specific sizing die to work with my press. But I don’t want to do any more.

I will say that my Great White and Freedom8 will get quite the workout when I get my .257 though!!

Numbers, accuracy and most importantly pics when you are able!!!

Do you have pics of your set up? Did you modify the tank to fit the valve? Who did you get to do the mod?

I screwed the valve nut in a bit more and it worked as far as being installed. The adapter was made by Doug, as is my new valve that I pick up tomorrow. Doug’s valve will be used on my standard Condor tank until my CF 4500 tank arrives in about two weeks.

I will test at 3300-3400 psi to get the velocity I want and the number of shots I want.

As stated before I’m now wanting 950+ fps and 5 to 7 good solid shots. Folks think I will be getting closer to 975+fps with Doug’s valve and be able too get around that number of shots using 70gr slugs —– I’m not after long distance shooting, I want a flat trajectory at 25-75+ yds with over 100fpe —– with the things I have read, I think that is very, very doable.

We will see tomorrow – chrony, range finder, slugs, splash plate, and small 4500 tank are in the car along with extra water :- )

Should be pretty cool.

I ordered the gun last night and it is going out today FedEx… I should received it if I’m lucky on Friday or Saturday. All items will be installed except for the tank as that is in the process of being shipped and needs a custom thread adapter.

As mentioned, not to much of a fancy super custom gun stuff added (shroud and the bigger tank)….. it is just just a “High Desert Shooter” ;- )

If I get it on Friday or Sat, I will be able to shoot her this weekend.;- ) King Heavies in the 925ish fps+ zone. 40+ fpe at 75 yds works for me !

Well I have been shooting my Condors for the past month and I’m tuning each one to get between 950-975fps using JSB King Heavies. I usually don’t shoot a lot of shots before I fill up but I’m sure I’m getting 15+ at my Power Wheel settings of 6.1 to 6.8 depending on the gun …. all guns have an “O” ring under the Top Hat.

Got to say these guns are not real comfortable to shoot —- not too pleasing to the eye, and air hogs —– but they are accurate as heck and monsters in the power department ! These are the first airguns that I have confidence in shooting long range varmints. Long range for me is 60-80 yards

Another one of the major things I like about them is there are only 4ea “O” rings and they are all in a small area in and around/in the valve area in the tank and very easy to replace ….. A HUGE deal. I read all the time about guns seals going bad and the owner must send the gun off to be worked on or go through ripping the gun apart to get to a seal ….. anybody with a little mechanical ability can work and replace the “O” rings in a AirForce gun. In a country environment or in a time of need and a “O” ring goes bad .. no big deal. Also the valve is a very, very simple design in this gun … another huge plus.

Twice the volume, nice. You will get plenty of shots for sure and with a 3000 psi fill you should be able to get into the low 80 fpe range when needed.

Post up some pics when she is all put together.

The cf tank has less volume of air so you dont get more shots unless you tune it down. You will have the ability to increase the power with the higher pressures. I got mine up to 103 fpe just by going from 3400 to 3600 psi. My max at 3000 psi was in the low 80’s. To get more shots i really had to choke it down but that is really easy and takes about 5 minutes with the ttqc top hat. Threw in the smallest restrictor and a .045 washer under the tophat and bang 30 fpe gun with 19 gr hn hunter extremes. My shot count now is still less than when i regulated my stock tank for the same power levels. I also have a regulated cf tank set up that gets less shots than the stock tank did with the same reg setup.

Biggest advantage of the cf tank is shorter which is better when your adding the tank adapter or reg and the ability to run the pressure up and increase the power to crazy levels.

I’ll be shooting JSB King Heavies, with a starting velocity in the 875-925 fps mark. I hoping with power wheel adjustments to get 20-24 good shots in this zone. I don’t mind turning up the wheel every 6 – ? shots to keep the speed pretty level for the # of shots I want.

Being my gun has a 24 inch barrel I’m getting good efficiency per charge, probably about 100+fps over an 18″ barrel .. for me that is very important for this guns intended use.

wll2506

Well after talking to AirForce gunsmiths and shooters I’m deciding to go with a 53ci 3000 Catalina tank (# 9098). The extra volume will increase shot count and the fact that I’m shooting with 24 ” barrel means I get very good velocity per air volume charge, 868 cu instead of the factory 490 cu because of the tank change ! I’m sure my shot count will be very good, perfect for GS towns 🙂 And of course enough poop for bigger varmints !
