Q:

Taipan standard oil at back of shroud

So I have run about 200 pellets through the mutant standard in the last week or so. I notice a small puff of air from the back of the shroud even from fresh out of the box. I believe it is likely normal as the shroud is doing its job, but there is some oil there too. You can see the sheen of the oil at the rear of the shroud. So am I correct in my assumption that this is normal? What looks like a scratch at the join of the rear end of the shroud cap is just light hitting it funny. I have not tried to remove the shroud at all. Could it be an O ring inside the shroud that is letting oil past? Can I just unscrew it to check? There is a grub screw on the left of the rear end of the shroud, do I undo that then just unscrew?

The gun shoots fine, just concerned it will gather dirt and grime with the oil coming out..

Really nice looking gun!

Yes, unscrew it a quarter turn. I was worried the set screw might gouge the barrel, but it didn’t. Inside the shroud where the set screw would come through is a rubber plug, so the set screw pushes that into the barrel to stop it moving. I used a 2mm hex key. Be careful though, undo it too far and it will gouge the air cylinder when you unscrew the shroud. It’s best to undo the shroud a quarter turn, them remove the set screw entirely to remove the shroud to eliminate any gouging, then unscrew the shroud.

Thanks for the pic. did you have to unscrew your barrel to get access to the set screw on the moderator? I just checked mine it’s facing down dead center of the air tube. Oh and thanks for the link.

Ask and ye shall receive. I think it looks quite sharp as it is just a tad longer than the standard shroud, and the moderator is just a bit longer than the sunshade, by about 3 inches. The Weihrauch moderator appears to have the same gap between the air cylinder and moderator that the standard shroud did. With the standard shroud, the sunshade is longer…. Great for stealthy curtain twitching that I have to do with my nosey neighbors, so you can only see one tube and not a scope and barrel sticking out the window… BTW…
You can get a Weihrauch moderator here… http://www.penchetta.com/store/air-guns/accessories/weihrauch-moderator-ldc.html?___SID=U
They do both .177/.22 and .25 versions. They appear to be out of the .22’s again.

How bout a pic of the Weihrauch LDC on your standard. I’d like mine quieter also.

Just removed it. Cleaned it up…. While it was off, I also tried a Weihrauch LDC on it and found it was a little quieter than the stock shroud. It’s a little longer, but definitely quieter by 2 db’s on my iPhone db meter.

Dry scuba air to fill from a Great White tank. Not a pump. So shroud removal is a simple unscrew, or remove the grub screw at the back of the left hand side of the shroud? Is feeling air come out the back of the shroud normal too?

When they make these they use some lube on pretty much everything ….

I’m thinking it’s just residual lube ….
There is a set screw you need to just loosen a touch… then turn off the shroud…

What are u using to Fill?

Take the Shroud off and wipe it all down with a microfiber cloth ….
