Q:

Talon SS Barrel Swap

Swapped out my .22 barrel to the .25 barrel last night and thought I’d share my experience.

Also, where would one get Silicon Oil as mentioned in the first video to oil a couple things on the gun as well as pellets. Is there something comparable at a automotive store or hardware store? Is it really needed??

I might add that my gun came in the black box with out the foam padding but rather card board cut out to hold the gun and air tank and no video manual. I looked on the internet and found a couple videos and I believe this is the video manual as it covers just about everything. May be a little out of date as it only had two barrel screws but noted that recent guns have four barrel screws.

I also found this video which showed how to install the Sound-Loc kit which requires removing the barrel. This video had the barrel with four barrel screws.

However, my barrel didn’t come out as easy as it did in either video.

.22 Barrel Removal
1. I started by removing the air tank and forearm.
2. I then removed the muzzle cap screw and removed the muzzle cap from the end of the frame. Once the muzzle cap was removed I took out the spring washer and the three baffles.
3. I remove the four barrel screws, turned the gun upside down and gave it a couple taps and the barrel didn’t move. I tried pushing the barrel from the breach end with a small plastic tube which moved some but then seemed to get stopped. I noticed the power adjuster wheel was moving forward as well, not sure if that is supposed to move but I continued on. After looking at things I noticed a small screw on the bottom of the barrel which was very similar to the forearm screw with a round flat head. After removing that screw I was able to push the barrel out with a little bit of force. Neither video mentioned anything about that screw. I was thinking the baffle spacer would come out with the barrel but only the neoprene washer came out. I looked down the barrel sleeve and everything else seemed in place so I continued on.

.25 Barrel Installation

1. I thought I would have to put the barrel bushing on the .25 barrel but the barrel came with the Sound-Loc bushings already installed, the neoprene washer and two end caps. Sweet!!!
2. Slid the .25 barrel into the sleeve, lined up the holes and installed the barrel screws.
3. Installed the 3 baffles, spring washer, muzzle cap and screw. I notice there was something almost like a piece of paper covering up half of the power wheel spring. I used a small screw driver t push it up out of the way. Not sure what that is?

All in all it wasn’t too bad but removing the barrel wasn’t as easy as the videos made it seem.

It was getting late so I didn’t run it over the chronograph but man it smacks metal targets with authority. I used the .25 cal JSB Exact King Heavy, 33.95 grain pellets.
