I’m using Red&Tacky ….I tried moly but my particular gun is VERY well used and its more consistent with the heavier grease . I use very little on the piston , just a light smear …And on ends of spring . I also ground down spring ends to make them square which helped a lot . Hardest part honestly was fi ding a lube that would let the sledge recoil all the wa y… After trying several things RemOil worked the best . Just a drop on all 3 slides and its doing great .

That’ll do it.

What lube are you using?

. Finally got it figured out …Too much grease 🙂

What the hell are you guys talking about a well tuned FWB 124 should be hitting one hole groups at 200 yards with a 30 MPH cross wind, 😛 😛 😛 😛
In the 70s and 80s I thought there was noting ever going to top a well oiled FWB 124 , The shots I made from my gun would have you drinking straight out of the bottle.

quote birdman:

Joe , remember you are shooting a springer , do not except miracles and be able to obtain the same qualities that you can
get when shooting a PCP Air Gun .

I’m pretty sure Joe knows when his springer is below it’s potential. He’s damn good at shootin’. Check his groups:

You got a new spring in there right?
The springs have to break in, 500 shots or more.
I know you know the 124s are very pellet sensitive,
Mine only shoots the old Beeman Silver Jets, from the 70s
Never tried the new ones.

Yeah I talked to a guy today and I thought the sound was just in my head . My hearing is kinda impaired a little like my vision . He said same thing about the sound as you Bog … Bingo I think that’s the ticket …I’m gonna try flat metal washers on spring guides and see if that helps

Last time that happened to me, it was the scope. I swapped it onto another straight-shooter, zeroed and .. drifting away. It was a fairly new Hawke and was replaced under warranty. The Hawke was on a pcp, but I had the same thing happen with the RWS and a long-ago-tossed out scope (BSA, Simmons?). That cheap scope lasted for years before rattling apart from the magnum spring of death :suprisedn:

If it’s spring binding, you should see weird chrony numbers. Also, wouldn’t that change the “normal” sound, too?

Using a scope and its just random as hell , I talked to a serious benchrest springer guy today and he said its the spring binding up …I’m gonna work on it . I got it in my head to go to extreme BR and kick a little ass

Are you using scope or peep sight?

If you are using a scope, put on the peep sight and check the accuracy.

If you are using a peep already then something is loose
