Q:

JSB king thick skirt’s

Well Guys, I mentioned in another post that I was having trouble with the thick skirt kings. It was under the Vulcan threads however I’m actually shooting them out of my EdGun. http://www.talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=35181 Quick recap I was getting 1.6″ groups at 75 yards with the thick skirts and .5″ groups with the thin skirts. Well anyways, This morning I had just about a 0 wind correction and I finished off my tin of thick skirt pellets. Wanting to continue shooting I grabbed another coffee and another tin of thick skirt pellets. I loaded up a mag and let one rip and smack… about .5 mil to the left. Feeling really discouraged I took another shot. boom.. ragged hole. Another shot and the same. Wow I’m thinking not bad. I dialed in my windage and continued on. I’m happy to report that at 75 yards I was getting some great groups of .75″ and better. Even some in the .5″ realm. I’m not sure what was up with that other tin but I’m feeling much better about the thick skirt pellets now. At least this tin! Time will tell… I wish they would at least put the Die number or batch number on each tin!

I have been buying Kings since 2010ish ……….. there are many variations if u ask me coming from every vender at the same time/date, sorry no pics.

For me the worst came out of was in 2014 and one of the best for me came out of 2013 lot batches.
I stop buying Kings after I sold my Condor SS 25 cal in early 2015, but I’ve kept the Kings ………. :winkn:

For me it hasn’t been the skirts thickness that I notice a difference in accuracy with, it’s the consistent size of the head diameter that made my day.

No doubt Greg! I’m sure it’s my case as well… The style of the skirts was just a quick way to identify a different die. I don’t really have a great way to measure head diameter at home without crushing the pellet head rim a bit. I’ve often wondered about the shape of the head as well? I am going to bring some samples to work and put them in a Optical Comparator to see if I can’t get a proper measurement on the head size. If all else fails I’ll give some to the boys in our Gauge lab…

I had a similar experience with Air Arms Field .25 pellets…made in same factory under a different badge but same pellet mould I’ve been told.

The pellet on the right always worked best for my .25 Rapid.

I thought jsb labelled their tins with batch, die, date info on them?? At least every tin I have here does, I use the Air Arms pellet’s and they have that info on the tins underside.

TJ are you hating me for bringing this up

Are you kidding me? You’re a great guy and a key player in this field! That being said…. You bastard! You have probably known this all along.. :biggrinn: I just can’t believe that I have never shot pellets from the middle style thus far. I guess I’ve been lucky over the years. Who the hell knows how many different styles there are? Does anyone else have pictures from different dies and their performance?

Hating you is right, now i’m going to have to open up the last 6 remaining tins of kings and start looking up skirts. LOL

Here’s a picture of the 3 different Jsb Kings from what appears to be different die’s I received. The one on the left is a thin skirt. The one in the middle is the thick skirt that did not shoot well at all for me. Now the one on the right is a thick skirt as well and shoots great! I bet these are off a die that is similar to Ed’s. If anyone has a picture of EdGun .25 pellets please post if you don’t mind. If I recall correctly, I remember seeing some somewhere and they had a small center in the skirt. I’ve never had a problem until I tried the ones in the middle? There are 2 pellets in the picture in the tin that look like they have holes in the center but it’s just an illusion.

Hey X,

……….. dang yah JSBs outta mark there die #s .
If u didn’t clean your barrel the new tin is probably riding on the old leaded in, so don’t clean it ……… enjoy the ride.

Greg, this was an instant change as soon as I ran out and started a new tin within minutes. I was so intrigued that I went down in the shop a few minutes ago to check out these pellets. Sure enough they are different from the other two! I now have three different Kings. I’ll post a picture of these as soon as my photo bucket stops acting up! lol. Inside the skirts are very different. But yeah I’m probably 120 shots into a cleaned barrel.
