Q:

How sturdy is the Mutant?

Can you throw it around and bump it etc? How is build quality in comparison to the Cricket?

+1. We are talking nits here. I actually prefer the semi-gloss parts on the Short mutant to the matte finish. I wish everything was just like the air tube and shroud. 😉 I would not expect the barrel to match coming from wherever but would like the receiver to be exact. The semi-gloss is very close to my Weatherby Mark 5 Deluxe PB.

I agree with Elmer. Like Elmer said, the anodized finish in my shorty is also not consistent (matte vs semi-gloss). But in my Standard, it is consistent, and all are semi-gloss, looks very nice, good feeling, and very accurate and sturdy.

I’m not rough on my equipment but in my opinion the build quality is better on the Mutant vs Cricket. The only downside is the anodized finish. On my Mutant, the finish isn’t consistent. Some parts like the breech and barrel band is more of a matte finish while the reservoir and shroud is semi-gloss. On my Cricket and even my Edgun the anodized finish is more consistent throughout all the metal parts.

That said, the way the Mutant is assembled with part of the shroud being clamped onto the barrel band I think it would more sturdy. If banged around or even dropped, my guess would be the Mutant would still hold the best against any shifts compared to a Cricket or Edgun. If you dropped a Cricket the scope rail overhang might be bent or worse the cocking level or indexing lever may be damaged. Aesthetically, I do like the shape of the Cricket rail though and think for the Edgun the rail magazine holder is an awesome idea. If those two aspects were somehow incorporated into the Mutant it would be the perfect compact bullpup.
