Wood for Custom Stock
I see a lot of threads dealing with custom stocks for the Cricket. Most are made of walnut.
Has anyone ever heard of a word called Thermory?
I discovered this wood when I was planning on building a new porch on my house (that selection has still yet to be decided…wife wants mahogany). But this product seems really awesome!
If you’ve never heard of this product it is white ash harvested in North America and treated with heat and humidity in Europe. Super lightweight ( because of the heat treating process all of the water is taken out of the wood thereby reducing the weight of the product by 50% ), superstrong (baseball bats are made of ash), and it has a beautiful grain. I have spoken to the folks at the Buffalo New York distributing center and they say it is possible to special order wood blanks that you can make a gunstock from (the guy I spoke to told me that people build turkey calls, guitars, and gunstocks from this wood). Now it’s not as common in the USA as it is in Europe but it should be much more easily available in Europe. I was hoping that one of the European custom Cricket stock makers could take a look at it and see if it is a viable and cost-effective alternative to Walnut.
If I had the ability and the tools I would be making them out of it tomorrow :biggrinn:

Anyone know how I can get more information on Chrish616918’s post? Are those his stocks? I messaged him and got no response. Any other custom Cricket stocks out there I should look at? I’d like to get the weight down on my synth stock and the wood is just amazing.
