Now that my truck is broken down and I will be playing the “getting it fixed game” I have time to ponder my 257 Condor that I’m working on. Have only shot it maybe 20 times, and all shots I was testing for velocity while sighting her in enough to stay on target.
I’m very excited about this gun as it is in another level compared to my other airguns. If I can get close to the kind of speeds the other posters on this forum are getting with there 257″s I will be ecstatic. Right now I know I can get hit the 975fps mark with 72gr pills for 5 shots … I came close with a 3000+ ish psi tank, with a CF tank at 3400 – 3500+psi it is a done deal, my velocity may very well be over 975 !
If my velocity with the 72 gr’rs is close to 1000fps, then I will try the 85gr FPSP mold # 257388 from Arsenal. If I can get 925-945 with that, then it is pretty well over for my testing for sure —– ~125fpe at 225 yards !!!, Really, Really give me a break —– the bullet still going 815 fps and I will have 140+fpe at 125 yards …. all this is assuming a BC of this bullet is between .220 -.240 (I’m using .220 for my info) The 72 gr bullet has a BC of .129. I can’t find a figure for the BC of the 257388 molded bullet ? from some reports it is over the .220 I’m using.
This 257 project is pretty interesting. After watching Doug and Nick shoot eggs at 225 yards and bust soda cans … this caliber as well as the 308 are really something.
Sure wish my CF 4500 tank was here ;- )

Well you maybe almost done testing but I am just starting. Just sold some more stuff on e-bay and now how money to get the scope I want and more pellets.
Well the 257420 72gr’ers are averaging in the 995+ with the carbon tank filled to 3600psi and using Doug’s valve/spring with a standard Condor hammer and weight. I’m testing the 257388 bullets today at the same ‘420 setting and at 1/2 dial up if need be. Would love 975fps+ with the 85gr’ers without going crazy.
My testing is close to being done with this gun … I have my setting for the 72gr’ers, now to see if the 85’s are to my liking.

No it was one from the scrap pile. I would never use one of hers because then I would have to get her a new set. Then I would not have any money for more pellets :biggrinn:

Well the H&N Grizzly’s just about go through a aluminum frying pan at 35 yards with the PW at 6. Not bad 😛 Now all I need is a good scope to see how they group. Oh and I also have a chrony on the wish list.
I can tell you because I have a couple 25 cal Condors … you did your self good.
I get 975 fps with JSB KH’s using the PW setting of 5/1 … push PW up to 6/1 and shoot 43gr EJH’s and 39gr Nielsen Slugs at 945+fps.
The slugs turn your Condor 25cal pellet gun into a 25cal Air Rifle, if you know what I mean. With the slugs at the above velocity I have 50fpe at 145 yds – and this slug is a tack driver !!!! Very few air guns get 50fpe at the muzzle and far fewer have 50fpe at 145 yds !!!
So you can have your 25 Condor for squirrels, pigeons and the like with JSB’s and knock the heck out of them … use EJH’s for PD’s or maybe 50+ yard Coyote, and with slugs have a 75+yd (60fpe) Coyote gun, that has the power for a heart/lung shot if need be. These slugs have a BC of .090-.092 far more than any pellet !
Nicks slugs are a major game changer as far as down range fpe is concerned. These slugs are IMHO to much for backyard hunting unless you have wide open spaces to shoot ! I bought a few bags of these slugs and put them away, I plan on using them for one purpose only COYOTE ! there is nothing else in the high desert that I would shoot these at. My JSB KH’s are fine for everything else, including 100 yard shots at Jacks … 36fpe if I wish – I would not take a shot at over 75ish yards at a Jack anyway, don’t want to wound him. By the same token I doubt very much if I would take a 75+yard shot at a Yote for the same reason. EJH’s, BTW are giving 45+ fpe at 80 yards, with a lot of momentum – A lot of smack at that range for sure.

I am most likely going to stick with the .25. I just got some H&N Grizzly 31 gr “bullets” I hope they will be a poor mans slug in my condor 😛
Yes, this gun is extremely powerful…..as in the energy of a 22 lr at at muzzle at 100+ yards !!! This gun is no joke and there are very, very few places I can shoot mine, and it won’t be shot to much. Just in a hunting situation far away from anything !

I am thinking of the .257 for my condor but I only have about 5 acers for a back stop. That scares me some :sadn:

The ‘388 mold bullets are tricky in my gun …. .2570 and they are very loose in the bore ….. 258 and you can’t push them in the bore at all. I just wrote a note to N.O.E. for a .2574 push die, hoping that will work.
I can push ‘420 .258 sized bullets in the bore OK, but they are hard, .257 are too loose. I’m looking for .2573-.2575 I think !
Shot one 85 gr bullet today that was sized to .257, at 4/12 on my PW I got 958fps .. need bullets sized correctly for a true velocity reading. My ‘420 bullets are getting 995+ fps (today’s reading, same as before with this bullet and gun settings at 4/0 on the PW) and a great bell curve with 3600 PSI down to 3000 PSI (actually more like 3500 down to 2950 as the first shot is about 20+ish fps slower than the rest of the curve)
