Q:

Edgun R3M .25 Ultra Short

Ever since this thread I’ve always wanted an Edgun Short. When Keyser showcased the new .25 short it peaked my interest but it still didn’t look right to me. I already had a .25 standard and didn’t want to upgrade to the .25 short for minimal gains so did what I thought was natural, commission Dman to hacksaw a $1500+ gun. I shared some ideas with him and let him do the rest. End result is below…

My Edgun Matador R3M .25 Ultra Short. It measures just under 25.5″ end to end.

This is probably the shortest Edgun Matador R3M .25 I’ve seen however I’ve seen some pretty short .22 on youtube but the reservoir wasn’t modified. I had Dman shorten it for aesthetics and relocate the fill port. On the second pic the fill port has a dust plug on it. I didn’t really care about shot count and just wanted a badass looking Matador short. It’s mostly a shelf queen since a .25 isn’t exactly backyard friendly. Sound wise it’s about the same since the LDC was not altered. I plan to get some sort of eccentric moderator to finish the project off. I also have to retune it given the shorter barrel.

It’s amazing how different this gun feels with the length shorten just a couple of inches. Originally a standard is 29.3″ and you can feel the length and weight when maneuvering it. As soon as picked up this ultra short it felt much much lighter with most of the weight balanced right above the grip. I strongly believe this should have been the look and size of a Matador short straight from Edgun!

The shorten barrel on this ultra short is 15″. It’s threaded and has the choke like OEM. An R3M short has a 16.5″ barrel.

Sweet! Nice job. Wasn’t sure how the barrel assembly was set up in that regard. Is it threaded into the breach block?

Well executed and very cool. Good job guys.

How long did the barrel end up?

I assume the choke was removed with the mod. Any resulting issues with accuracy?

I don’t think i measured the final product…

And NO I did not cut the choke off…. I took it off the breach end

Yes this will be an option. The can will be put on every short if the customer wants. It requires some modification.

Nice work Fuddster, you have a unique Eddie there
Put an offset on it looking at the space I don’t know if the factory one will fit but here’s an offset on a short .25
.

KS, are you offering this as an option on the shorts? Any significant change in dB?

replacing the wooden front grip of the stock AND the air cylinder you can fit a 500cc bottle and get a Impact design. Shot Count would be great

My bro… you hit my point… i always thinking about if i have my Edguns with 500cc air reservoir..what would be my shot count???

If i can get easily 70+ with my STD 280cc air reservoir.. average velocity 935 FPS 18.1gr ..so think of an Edgun with 500cc air reservoir!!

I have no stuffs to modify one of my matadors to 500cc tank ..otherwise i would try it…

Oh man them off set LDC look cool.
One of these days I may have one,
And it looks like Dman did a work of art with that Edgun, One of a kind , Cool factor plus 10.

Nice very nice…..
I like the looks of it much better.

Post a shot string with the fpe.

What scope is that?

Bushnell LRHS 3-12×44

Glass is very good for it’s price considering it’s a fraction the cost of a March :biggrinn: I decided to put it on the Matador since it’s a 50+ yard gun and is better suited to the scope parallax specs.

Nice job on the conversion, that looks to be a very handy little rifle.

Looks to be a Bushnell LRHS.

I preordered two of the LRHS a while back for air rifle use to upgrade my previous Bushnell 3-12 x 44 FFP scopes because they were reasonably small and light, offered a good reticle, had a nice 10 mil elevation turret with zero stop, and were supposed to have 7Y minimum parallax (the Bushnell 3-12 x 44 FFPs I was running at the time had 10Y parallax, but I wanted the 10 mil elevation knob and zero stop the LRHS offered.) Unfortunately when I received the new LRHS scopes Bushnell had changed the parallax specs and they arrived with 50Y minimum parallax. Nice scopes, but I sent them back for the parallax not being what was initially promised and I wasn’t happy with the additional limitations on close range use. They still do OK inside of 50Y if you dial the magnification down though, they stay reasonably in-focus and parallax free. They have a 3-12x and a 4.5-18x version.

Wish Bushnell would give the LRHS 10Y minimum parallax, because they’re damn nice little scopes other than that issue.

Once again Elmer nailed it :8: IMHO

I’m wondering what it would look like with an “eccentric air cylinder” with the “fat part” replacing the wooden front grip of the stock.

Thanks man!

An eccentric air cylinder like you’ve describe will yield minimal benefits. The reservoir section in front of the band (above the trigger guard) to the fill port on an ultra short like this isn’t a whole lot of volume. To go from the OEM diameter reservoir to an eccentric (larger) tube requires an adapter that would take up a decent amount of volume. Therefore all your efforts in adding an eccentric reservoir section with a few mm more in diameter yields not much additional air but introduces areas of leaks due to adding connections/orings. If you want a high volume setup, you’ll have to go with a CF bottle which won’t work on a Matador while retaining most of its original aesthetics.
