Shorty shot count per fill
What are your shots per fill and fps? I am curious how much a higher fps affects the shot count.

That probably ties in with the fact that the air per shot efficiency from ultra high pressure, 300 bar down to 200 bar, has always been much less effecient than air used per shot at 200 bar down to 100 bar. Mechanical regulators don’t seem able to function properly with ultra high air pressures.
Possibly a two stage regulator might be the answer…built to effectively regulate at ultra-high pressure, before it would drop down to a low pressure regulation function for shots at 200 bar, or less. Could such an animal even exist! It would be nice to achieve the shot count potential from that upper 100 bar air capacity. If possible, such efficiency could result in a couple hundred shots per fill at 300 bar. Now that performance that would nearly equate to small caliber powder burner convenience in the field!

It is interesting to note how the efficiency of the Shorty improves at a lower energy level. 70 shots at 21 FPE (1470 FPE total) as opposed to 36 shots at 28 FPE (1008 FPE total). The improvement is expected, but I did not imagine it would be this much.
20 FPE using a pellet with good BC can still reach out quite a bit with sufficient terminal energy and accuracy to take down FT targets and similarly sized furry targets.
I do find that shooting the Shorty accurately takes a bit more concentration than, say, a Daystate Airwolf. This has nothing to do with the quality of the gun itself, but rather the stability that comes with a longer and heavier gun with an electronic trigger :suprisedn: . All the better since I really need to put some work into my trigger control. I am now shooting my HPA converted Walther Nighthawk with that DA heavy and LONG trigger pull just for practice!
That shot count is up there with an Edgun!
If the mutant had the same size airtube it would blow the Edgun out of the water in shotcount ….
The tubes on the mutant are small…. but yield great efficiency

Our “accuracy/bench shooters” certainly should have no complaint.
One segment of our limited forum population are the “Cold Blooded Murderers” who shoot to kill at varying distances, in an effort to rid the planet of creatures with no lips! Such as snakes, chickens, birds, armadillos, groundhogs, squirrels, etc..etc… Such individuals are loath to take a shot that fails to impact with a “sickening thud!!!”, followed by the bodily expulsion of entrails, gizzards, spleens, and assorted sweet-meats!
It’s hard to find a gun that satisfies every need, but possibly a caliber-based choice might be the answer? Caliber .22 has performed nicely in this gun. Caliber .25 just might satisfy the blood lust in the glazed-eyed, mouth-breathing, staggering, inebriates that also want their deranged needs met!
Is the Mutant the right gun for forum mutants??? January will tell the tale…
Yours in general slaughter, and indulging in Human bodily excesses….

My .22 Shorty does 36 shots = 3 mags, I set the reg to 145 bar.
This was with a 220 bar fill down to 115 bar at an average 820 FPS using JSB 18g.
JSB 16g with the HST turn down to 820 FPS, I’m getting 48 shots = 4 mags when I fill to 220 bar down to 115 bar.

To answer Uncle Hoot’s question, I maintained the same efficiency and lowered the muzzle energy to 20 FPE in Chairgun. The answer is 56 shots from 220 bars down to 120 bars. In reality, efficiency should improve (though not sure by how much) as muzzle energy is lowered, meaning the shot count should be better than 56 shots.
The test result of the OP shows results better than theory! 70 shots at a muzzle energy of 21 FPE, that is way better than my theoretical answer of 56 shots at 20 FPE.
Not too much science behind this but today I went out and filled the Mutant shorty to 3200 psi and shot 60 shots with absolutely zero POI change. I was shooting at 78 feet, all my back yard allows, and I was shooting 15.9 JSB’s. I don’t suppose one would expect much of a POI change at only 78 feet but it sure makes it nice to be able to get at least 5 full magazines before recharging. I didn’t pay any attention to where the pressure ended. Also I have the Mutant set at 775 FPS.

I am not a Chairgun person…I wonder if the shot count would increase significantly if the fpe were to be lowered to 20?
40 shots is nothing to sneeze at. However, in caliber .25 one would expect to see a reduction, unless the air cylinder were to be increased in size.
Hoot:
Using Chairgun, I extrapolated that from 220 bars down to 120 bars, the Shorty has 40 shots at 28 FPE each. This is consistent with the other posts. 3 clips of 28 FPE shots isn’t bad for such a little gun!

(Snort!!!) Nice comeback…you need thick skin and a pair to climb into this forum to slug it out. Some of our forum members can be a bit opinionated at times, and give back as good as you received!
Welcome…and give us your opinion anytime you feel the urge.
Senile, and sometimes a bit pathetic, but never giving a shit what any of you morons think…
Kindly ‘Ol Uncle Hoot:
At least 40 shots from 220 to 130 bars for either JSB RS or JH: http://www.talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=32414&p=372662#p372662
The shot count varies with the settings of regulator output pressure and hammer strength.
Welcome, the new Mutant owner.

Shooting JSB Jumbo Express 14.35gr pellets at a muzzle energy of 28FPE, my unmodified Shorty gets 28 shots from 220 bars down to 150 bars. I am guessing another 6 to 8 shots are left without any POI, but no guarantee of that. Those who are math inclined and know how to model tank pressure/volume to shot count can chime in and guestimate the shot count down to 120 bars.
Hi, i justgot my taipan shorty from Wil dwest Airguns, from 250 to 102 bar i made almost 42 shots with 18 and 16. The only test i have done so far. Accuracy is very nice. Mine likes jsb 16 ,
I have mounted an Aeon 1×18-50, but i want to change the scope for a smaller one. DonĀ“t know wich one
I actually turned my regulator Down…..
new reg spacer, longer and made with holes in it. necked down the Valve stem for more Flow…. then i opened up the barrel T port and elongated it…..

Hoot,
Not ever heard of a two stage air pressure regulator, but that could be really slick. Sounds good anyway…
You guys shooting these rifles under 900 fps just really surprise me. I like my pellets at least in the 925 fps and up… I like to here the impact and want the poi as quick as possible long as its accurate…
I fear the .25 shorty is not going to work as hard as I like and have any shoot count. I figure on a standard or maybe a long. I like the bigger air cylinder on them for better shot count but more importantly, the more energy per shot and still some descent shot count capabilities… I just hope I can get this from the .25 caliber Mutant Long or Standard… If not, guess I will do one of these in the .22 caliber instead…
