Q:

New member, new Mutant owner with a question about degassing

Hi everyone. I bought a standard Mutant a few weeks ago. I love it. It’s so much nicer in every way than my synthetic .25 Marauder. My question is: do I have to degas the Mutant to remove the barrel? I’d hate to blow myself up over a stupid mistake, but I’d also prefer to not have to drain the rifle and refill it with my HIll pump if I don’t need to. Thanks 🙂

Thanks Hoot 🙂

No need to de-gas.

1) Loosen the single hex screw on the top of the breech block, above where the barrel enters the block

2) Loosen the top two screws that hold the barrel to the air cylinder, then loosen the middle two screws…(remember there are two barrel supports)
You do not have to remove the barrel/air cylinder supports…just loosen the top and middle screws.

3) Rotate the barrel while pulling it out (the barrel)

4) When replacing the barrel, line up the indentation in the end of the barrel so the screw in the breech block will screw down into the indentation.

Thanks Tony. I don’t really need to remove it, it’s shooting great. I just wanted to remove it to inspect the bore. It got pretty leaded up after only about 230 JSB 18.1 pellets ran through. I’m considering polishing the bore to reduce the leading. The bore was completely clean after I pulled the third WD40 wetted patch through it (the first was pretty dirty).

No need to de gas….why do you need to remove the barrel?
