Q:

Ordered the Wrong Regulator & Need Advice

I just got an Altaros regulator for my TalonSS and bought the one for 18×1.5mm to 5/8 x 18 UNF or paintball by mistake. I had wanted to get the all 18×1.5mm threads but did not choose the other regulator as it said for Condor. I am not sure if I want to go through returning this regulator if that is even possible. That got me looking at the JDS Airman tanks with paintball thread. I was planning to get a Talon Tunes CF tank when available with higher fill pressure to increase shot count and lighten the weight some but this regulator won’t work with that tank.. After looking at the JDS tanks I was wondering who has their tanks and is using the Altaros regulator. I had really wanted to even out velocities and increase shoot count so the 22 cu inch tank would yield less shots per fill compared to the stock 490cc Talon tank which equals about 30 cu in. I was also looking at the 48 cu inch tank which equals about 786 cc. I could shoot forever with that tank. Since it is aluminum it appears to weigh the same as the standard Talon steel tank. It is a shorter tank and add the length of the Altaros reg it will still shorten the standard Talon trigger pull length from 14″ to 12″ in my calculations.
The bottle diameter increases from 2.4′ to 3 3/8″. That would raise the cheek weld by about 7/16″ through increased radius. This is what all my calculation has brought me to. I wanted to know if anyone is using this set-up or 48 cu inch on a Talon or Condor. If so how has is the ergonomics and handling of the rifle . If this set-up is not doable let me know and what would work. Thanks for any advice. Bill

Well here is the solution and results to my purchase of the Altaros with the wrong thread set-up. Actually I am very happy with the way things worked out. Watch the video to see the results.

Co2 adapter 17 ci tank 2k reg pw@12 tank pressure 2800. Two shots @ 760fps / 25.5 fpe with .25/19.91gr pellet. Have a doctors appt so didn’t have time for more shots.

Ok cool I see now. Now is the altaros limited to a 3k tank or can you use a 4.5k tank? Mad dog stock makes a big bottle stock lol.

miksatx the Talon 18×1.5 valve screws into the one end of the regulator and the paintball threads on the regulator screws into the paintball tank. Lets see if I can post a couple of pictures. By the way this is an older tank from June 99″ and it had no hole on the valve collar to help break it loose hench the pipe wrench marks even though I place some inner tube around the valve collar. The picture of the regulator adjustment shows adjustment screw area going from low green to red high.

Don’t know how much you are willing to dump in your talonSS. but for another couple hundred and change you don’t need to to worry about the co2 adapter with a mad dog stock.

so your altaros reg has the 18×1.5 that screws into Tony’s CF bottle. But has paintball threads on the output end right?

miksatx thanks for posting the pictures. My plan was to get the Altaros regulator and then a Talon Tune CF tank, that way I would only be adding about 5/8″ overall to the trigger pull length. That means the trigger pull length will go from about 14″ to 14 5/8″. I am of medium stature so that is a pretty long reach for me. This will be a plinking and small pesting rig so maintaining or increasing shot count is a must. The co2 adaptor would add still more length and the 17 cu in tanks would not meet my shot count needs. By the way the Altaros reg is easily user adjustable from 100 to 150 bar. Bill

I believe the reg on the silver tank is a 2kpsi output. Sorry no data on fps/fpe through the co2 adapter. I’ll try getting some in the morning.

Here’s a 17ci tank with the co2 adapter. Give me a few minutes and I’ll have a pix of it installed on my talonSS.

Here’s a 13ci tank

Do you have a co2 adapter for your talonSS? You can screw a paintball regulator in it. What psi output is the altaros reg?

Okay I stand corrected on the tank being aluminum verses steel. I was going by the size of the 48 cu. inch verses the Talons approx. 30 cu. inch tank and thinking about the increased size of the JSD tank with the weight stated of about the same. Anyway I am learning. Now back to my question is any body using any of the JSD tanks with the Altaros regulator with paintball threads. Any information and education that would help me with me utilizing this Altaros regulator with any paintball tank with 3000psi rating would be appreciated. Bill

Talon SS doesn’t have steel tanks it’s aluminum.
