Q:

Mutant Shorty FPS

Do any of you Mutant heads have your shorty shooting as low as 750-775 FPS? Just curious how much difference it would make on shot’s per fill.

Wait you bought it from me???? :biggrinn:
I’ve had three, AA bullpups in the past s400, 410 & 510 They were short also 24 inches long,
with adjustable power on the fly.

They are good as bullpups. Back in the day before we had all the great bullpups,
that people have too pick from & enjoy now. Their were no Edguns, no Crickets, no Vulcans, no Taipans.
Man I like them all.

You had to do your own bullpup conversions.
I learned a lot, from how they work it was fun.

But we are in the golden ages of the pcp bullpups.
And I’m enjoying the ride. :biggrinn:

I get 72 shots from 220b/140b 840/811 fps with JSB 8.4 with my mutant turn down from shooting jsb13.43 from 886/728 on my .177.

Hey, Foxback, I still have your AA bullpup! I added a UNF adapter and got one of Neil’s big cans. It is very, very quiet!

The Mutant is a very flexible platform when it comes to power settings, combining that with the wide selection of .22 pellets, it can handle a lot of types of shooting. I wasn’t expecting it to perform using light pellets, and was pleasantly surprised that H&N FTT Green actually shot better than JSB Jumbo Express!

Some guys here have turn down their shorty’s just a little bit.
I think, it was like 25 fpe, and they were getting 40 shots.

sactargetshooter is right, you just need too hit the off button.
The brain, that’s the kill twitch or the heart.

It’s all about shot placement has you guys know.
I had a Air Arms, that I did a bullpup conversion on, well some crows landed on my garage roof. I open the front door, just a little bit. And stuck the barrel out.
With my wife in the other room!

I did not know it, but the power was turn down, too the lowest setting on the power wheel.

I shot one crow, dead center mass, he rolled down off the roof.
His buddy landed, on the same spot, I nail him in the chest.

He join his buddy for a dirt nap…..
Both stone cold dead, with less than 10 fpe.

I can only speak for my own Shorty that is untuned. Shooting in a field target match, I mistakenly adjusted the power to 28 FPE. The little gun was able to shoot half the lanes before dropping to about 150 bars. I think it can drop down to 120 bars without change of POI. The course had 14 lanes for 28 targets and 56 shots. So at a muzzle energy of 28 FPE, I can probably get 32-35 shots or so without POI shift.

PCPs tend to be more efficient at lower muzzle energy levels. 35*28FPE/20FPE is 49 shots, plus some efficiency gain due to lower muzzle energy. This should come up to about 55 shots.

These days I shoot mine at a even lower muzzle energy level. I am shooting 9.56gr pellets at 700 fps for a muzzle energy of about 10.5 FPE. Lighter pellets are less efficient. Even so, I am probably looking at a minimum of 32*28FPE/11FPE=81 shots per fill. Small critters seem to be just as dead within 30 yards whether the muzzle energy is 10.5 FPE or 28 FPE!

My first thought was Teenage Mutant Ninjas, I have grandkids.

When the weather isn’t so cold I will fill er up and see how many shots I get.

Mutant heads…..

It should be 40-50 shots, I bet. :biggrinn:
