There is more to it. PCPs are really temperature dependent if the air is used as compressed energy.

Let’s consider the following scenario:

1. Regulated PCP was lastly used in 20C temperature. The regulated pressure is 130bar. Then you go outside and the temperature is -5C. Regulator will still maintain 130bar meaning that it will allow to pass more air while being outside (130bar in 20C will drop significantly in -5C thus the regulator will allow to pass more air to keep 130 bar). We take a shot and that shot is slower than the one in 20C. The same applies to all of the shots in -5C. 130bar in 20C is more violent (it pushes the pellet faster) than 130 bar in -5C.

2. Then you go home and the ambient temperature is 20C. You take the first shot and it is still slower than usual in 20C. However, the second and next shots are fine. This is due to the fact that while being in -5C the regulator established 130bar for that temperature but in 20C the pressure is higher in the regulated chamber as the regulator is unable to release additional air. It is able to compensate in one way only. When the regulated pressure is higher then the first shot maybe slower because the hammer does not have enough force to open the valve.

This is all very interesting.

5-10bar reg drifting on its own is NOT an issue.

the way pcps work is you tune it right onto the plateau, so the knock open valve compensates for the little drift, just like the unregulated guns have relatively wide plateau region. for a few shots independent on the cylinder pressure. if tuned right.

if the operating point is not tuned onto the knee. the valve and reg balance is not setup properly, then the reg becomes critical and may manifestate itself as an issue.

Ed are you saying your guns are all setup off balance?
regarding the lubrication: is it caused by the oil on the bellevilles more or on the internal o rings? cant be both.
i guess you dont need lubricate at all, the wife can tell!

all i am saying the little creep is not a big issue. there are more important factors what will mess with your guns precision and accuracy

My Leshiy has this already at +7 degree.

But this problem have all PCP regulators with high viscous lubricants.
The Regulator works in milliseconds and the high viscous lubricants slows down this process.
Slightly fluid lubricants work better at cold temperatures and also makes the regulator more accurate!

I can only confirm – I was shooting my Leshiy in sub-zero & snow – no change to speed 🙂
