Q:

Priest… My Take

Will be ongoing and I’ll do a full write up, but wanted to give my initial thoughts since that this gun seems to be garnering some attention.

Got the gun today from RL Airguns…. packed well. Came with a test chrony and group. Looked good…

I opted for the silver/black in .25.

….and of course the one shot I took of the gun came out blurry so I’ll update with a better pic later. It’s dark now.

So quickly my initial thoughts and such. I literally had about an hour of daylight when I got home so I’ve not been able to do much with it. Again, I’ll do a full review on this later, but for now just to whet your appetite…
It’s small. It’s smaller than I had envisioned. The gun dont seem front heavy to me and even with the rather large scope I have on it, seems to be a good carry weight.
Reg whistle…. yep. Mine did it. Alarming at first and I even called Matt about it as I thought something might be wrong. A few more shots and it went away mostly. After several mags, it was barely noticeable. I can hear the plenum refilling every so often, but at this point…. it’s just not a big deal to me.
You do have to be deliberate with cocking. Much like my Hummingbird. You cant candy ass it. I didnt find the knurling to be too sharp.
Overall fit and such… I like it. It looks well made.
I do like the trigger…nice. I’ve not adjusted it yet. I didnt get a chance to do much groups at all. I sighted it in and proceeded to pop leaves at various distances. Nothing I’ve seen so far alarms me with accuracy, but again, I’ve not done any real groups yet.
Mine is shooting around 920 with JSB’s according to the chrony sheet, but I’ve not had a chance to verify that here.
It’s got a unique sound. There is a ping and it’s a little loud, but it doesnt bother me. Matt mentioned they will have a moderator upgrade soon for it for those who require a bit more quiet. I might get it just because, but the sound doesnt bother me.
The gun will accept AR grips, but the bolt to secure is a touch fatter than my spare AR grip so I will need to bore that out a little to make it fit if I want to go that route. I likely will just to have it ‘different’ from some others.
I put an Atlas clone on it and it does a good job of shielding the reg and such. That setup doesnt bother me, really. I’ve got several QB conversions and other conversions so I’m not going to be knocking it around.
The instructions looked good and had color pictures, which I appreciate.
Edit… for the magazine. Yes, you do have to seat the pellets proper. No different really from a Daystate magazine. I used the next pellet in hand to slightly push the previous one down then turn and insert the next pellet.
Going to eat and will be back later if there are any specific questions. More to come!

I sent my .177 Priest back for a refund. If that gives you a clue what I thought of it.

i was real fan about this gun but now i will waiting more review because it s the same price than a standart kalibrun gun

nice one rob,,thanks

Not really a lot to report here. Still plugging along… it hits hard. Accurate… lots of shots… light… points well. Cocking is manageable and has gotten better. I have to say I really like this one. Cant wait to put the smack down on a critter with it.

I might be looking to sell my Royale 500. I dont think it will see a lot of use with this thing doing what it does.

Sounding good so far. Cheers

so,,,now you have had the gun a bit,,,,,what is your thoughts on build quality and accuracy rob,,,,?

In fact, I was just checking forums for a bit before headed out for the day to shoot it and some others some more.
I do have to say I really like this gun. Cocking isnt an issue, really. Perhaps, one day I’ll disassemble and see if I can smooth things out, but really I’m ok with it. The sound is odd. I’ll give it that. It’s just like nothing I’ve ever heard before. It doesnt bother me, really but it’s odd. Not enough of an issue for me to consider messing with it.
I have placed a couple of baffles from a BSA shroud inside the existing shroud and it helps some, but noise level isnt an issue for me.
I would buy again in a heartbeat. I originally had the .22 on order and I’m glad I went with the .25. Using Kodiaks, I can hit 50fpe with it. I’ve not tried the big JSB’s out of it yet and have done the majority of my shooting with the regular JSB’s.
Build quality seems ok. I wouldnt put it at the level of a Cricket, finish wise… but I also dont think the design lends itself well to a fancy finish and I rather like the duller look of it.
I’ve not pushed it past 70 yards, but within that distance, it’s everything that I want it to be.

thanks for you review
could you post pictures about how to disassembled it

At some point I’m sure I will…but for now, I’m going to continue shooting it. One of the other posters has disassembled it partially so he may have more pics.

thanks for you review
could you post pictures about how to disassembled it

Nice one rob

Rain was in the forecast for today… but I did two groups… aside from that, just plinking spoons and such out to 70 yards.
I have to say, this gun is as accurate as I want it to be.
A note on the cocking. It’s getting easier and really is not an issue. My shooting buddy’s wife is able to cock it with no issue and she is 60.

For these two groups, I had a single sandbag up front. Nothing supporting the rear of the gun.
First group at 54 yards. Can see where I pulled one… still, not bad.

Next group at 67 yards… Can see some drop, but still grouped well.

nice one,,,thanks

That’s looking good. Do you bench rest when testing

All groups are offhand, unrested and standing on one leg. 😉

Actually, I use a fold up table and a front and rear bag. Nothing ‘locked’ into place, just a bag up front and one in the rear to help steady. If I’m shooting springers, I’ll forego the bag in the rear and use a rolled up towel rested on my front bag, or I’ll rest my hand on the front bag.

That’s looking good. Do you bench rest when testing

Minimal time today after work before it’s starting to get dark, but I did try out Kodiaks in the Priest. I think it likes them just fine.

A quick check over the chrony showed them shooting at around 855-860 for 50fpe. Nice.
The cocking isnt an issue any more for me. Be deliberate with it and it cocks and cycles just fine. I do get the ‘elk call’ noise on occasion with it, but it doesnt bother me. The BSA baffles I fit in the shroud help some with muzzle blast.

Really liking this gun!
